In Soul HunterTake on the role of one of 21 unique characters to protect earthbound spirits. Set in a distinctive 3D world with paper-like graphics, this bullet heaven roguelike game puts skill at the heart of its design. Instead of improving through grinding, you progress by mastering the game’s mechanics and learning to optimize interactions between characters, weapons, and trinkets.
Use four to six weapons in simultaneous auto-attack actions to defend your ghostly companions as you traverse combat encounters, campfires, and shops along the way. Each playthrough typically lasts 20-25 minutes, and if you die, nothing except the Souls currency carries over to your next attempt.
Souls are not used for permanent upgrades, but rather to unlock new weapons and trinkets normally found during runs. You can also use them to create your ideal starting loadout. Instead of relying on stat grinding, the game encourages you to improve by understanding the synergies between characters, weapons, and trinkets. For example, you might come across a weapon that fires low-cooldown projectiles and pierces multiple enemies. Combine this with a trinket that triggers the Bleeding status effect and another that causes enemies to explode if they die from the Bleeding, and you get a build that will clear the screen in an instant by exploding everything in sight lets! By learning these powerful combinations, you’ll continually improve your runs by knowing what to focus on and adjusting strategies accordingly.
Characters also play a key role in creating the strongest builds possible, and you unlock them by completing certain objectives in the game. For example, defeating a boss with just one weapon unlocks Needle, the one-handed monk, while collecting over 1,000 coins in one playthrough gives you access to Penny, the merchant. As you unlock more characters, you’ll discover more areas of the overworld and be able to chat with more spirits to protect you. These spirits can provide valuable tips on weapon and jewelry combinations, as well as insight into the mysterious events that are unfolding Soul Hunter‘s spectral world!
Once you’ve honed your skills and mastered interactions with the game’s 21 characters, 35 weapons, and 84 trinkets, you’ll be ready to tackle the advancement levels. Levels are difficulty modifiers you can apply to a run, such as: E.g., “Enemies are tougher,” “Heal less when you defeat a boss,” or even “Coins are no longer attracted to you at the end of a fight.” Every time you level up, you unlock the next one with each character, and if you manage to max out level ten with one of them, you can find a Master Crystal in the overworld that will give you a special can skin!
Learn the strengths and weaknesses of each character and climb the ten climbs to slay even the most dangerous apparitions and become the ultimate Soul Stalker!
