Ubisoft stated in its latest financial report that Star Wars Outlaws fell well short of expectations.
Star Wars Outlaws is performing well below Ubisoft’s expectations, as announced in its new financial report today.
In addition, the initial sales of Star Wars Outlaws proved weaker than expected, despite solid reviews (Metacritic 76) and user ratings in the first party and Epic stores (3.9/5) reflecting a captivating and authentic Star Wars universe, it says.
In response to player feedback, Ubisoft’s development teams are currently working hard to implement a series of updates to refine and improve the gameplay experience so that Star Wars Outlaws can appeal to a large audience during the holiday season and sell well in the long term. The game will be available on Steam starting November 21st.
Yves Guillemot, co-founder and chief executive officer, said: “Our second quarter performance fell short of our expectations, prompting us to address this quickly and decisively, with an even stronger focus on a player-centric, player-first approach and an unwavering commitment to the long-term value of our brands.”
“While the tangible benefits of the company’s transformation are taking longer than expected to materialize, we remain committed to our strategy and focus on two key areas – open world adventures and GaaS-native experiences – with the goal of driving growth and generating robust free cash flow in our business.”
“In light of recent challenges, we are conscious of the need to increase efficiency while delighting players. In addition to the initial key short-term actions we have taken, senior management, under the supervision of the Board of Directors, is initiating a review aimed at further improving our execution, particularly in this player-centric approach, and accelerating our strategic path towards a more powerful model for the benefit of our stakeholders and shareholders.”
“Finally, let me address some of the polarized comments that have been heard around Ubisoft recently. I want to reiterate that we are an entertainment-first company that creates games for the widest possible audience, and our goal is not to push a particular agenda. We want to continue to create games for fans and players that everyone can enjoy.”
