Steam Deck has been a complete success for Valve, the company itself announced it and of course the effort and commitment they put into software and optimization for more and more games is commendable. The team behind Steam Deck has not stopped working on the laptop and they assure that soon we will receive more news.
Even if one of the strong points of the machine is precisely that it is not covered and in the background, it is a portable PC, which even allows us to run emulators of the first Xbox.
Steam Deck is loaded on the Microsoft Store
Recently we learned that Xbox Game Studios games are already marked with the label “Optimized for Steam Deck”, although to the surprise of many, not all of them are available. That there are games that cannot be played in the traditional way has a reason, the handheld console runs on Linux and not all games from Microsoft and other publishers are optimized for this operating system.
Fortunately, the Steam Deck is a flexible console, so much so that you can install Windows and run games from it. In fact, you can install Epic Games Store or Microsoft Store. And now Vanne have updated the drivers
So, if you feel like it, you can install Windows on your console, but it’s too expensive today because there are a lot of incompatibilities. Here are the handicaps you should assess if at any time you thought about doing so:
- Audio drivers are still missing. You can only listen to audio via Bluetooth.
- Windows 11 is currently not supported due to lack of TPM in Deck.
- There is no dual boot (Dualbot) option.
- The battery lasts less.
- You lose the Steam capabilities and layer only available in the original release.
Valve also announced that it was working with AMD and other manufacturers to bring missing drivers and improve compatibility with Windows. Now may not be the time, but in a few months it could be an interesting option.
