User data contained in September’s attack on 2K Games customer service has been put up for sale.
In September, 2K Games was the victim of a hack that allowed unauthorized access to customer service. This allowed malicious emails to be sent to players under a false name.
The company has now confirmed that user data was stolen in the attack and also offered for sale.
The affected users have been informed by e-mail from 2K Games in the last few days and also about which data was stolen. Passwords or financial data should not have been stolen.
“The unauthorized third party accessed and copied some personal information recorded about you when you contacted support, including your email address, helpdesk ID number, gamertag, and console details.”
“There is no indication that your financial information or password(s) stored on our systems have been compromised.”
We recommend resetting passwords and using two-factor authentication.
If someone clicked on the link in the malicious mail, further measures should be taken, such as updating the anti-virus program or firewall and resetting other passwords that are used.
