Bloober Team, developer of Silent Hill 2 Remake, is done making bad games.
Last week, Bloober Team introduced Cronos: The New Dawn, a new survival horror game based on the developer’s first original IP.
Co-director Wojciech Piejko spoke Mythos GameSpot about the new game and the recently successfully released Silent Hill 2 remake. The remake dispelled doubts and created a good atmosphere in the studio.
“It was a tough few years leading up to the release of [Silent Hill 2]” he said. “They did it. We did it. Bloober did it. And now there is a very good atmosphere within [des Studios]. We want to show what we can do ourselves, how we can further develop our ideas,” says Piejko.
“You have recreated a legendary game. They made the impossible possible, and it was a bumpy road because there was so much hate online. The pressure was on but they did it and it’s a great moment for the company.”
According to Jacek Zieba, co-director and producer of Cronos, they have found their place, their niche. People are done making “bad games”.
Zieba said: “We want to be a horror company. We want to find our niche, and we think we’ve found our niche, so we’re just evolving with it. […] And how that happens is more complex, but it also happens organically, like with Layers of Fear (2016), when the people at the studio said, ‘Okay, we’ve made some crappy games before, but we [können] evolve.’”
By the way, they don’t want to switch to other genres, as Piejko mentions. You have a team that loves horror. A change wouldn’t be easy for the studio either.
