Why swim when in Surface Rush you can bounce?
Sebastian the crab has already told us that life under the sea is much happier and livelier. And hey, there’s no shortage of reason seeing how the marine life unfolds in the latest proposal from DrimTiGames and Jandusoft. We are talking about Surface Rush, an interesting indie title with clear and direct ideas. Ready to bounce off the walls of the seabed?
one hand game
Surface Rush bases all ideas on a simple playable scheme suitable for all family members. We will control PumPum, a little octopus (or something similar to an octopus) which must go through a series of phases to reach the corresponding finish line.
To reach your destination, we will have to select the direction you want PumPum to go with the directional stick. And there are no more buttons. Its simplified gameplay is seasoned with a series of obstacles, objects and game modes that we will go through in this analysis.
What are we playing today?
In Surface Rush we will have four very different game modes. In fashion Classic
The second game mode is called Accurate shot, and here we will have a single movement between one checkpoint and the next, so it will be necessary to have common sense and know where to aim to make the correspondents bounce off the walls. Then we have the mode Precision, with a limited number of moves on each screen. Finally, it is worth mentioning the way Timewhere the stopwatch will be our greatest enemy.
Monitor your lung capacity
In addition to the limitations that the described game modes may have, we will have to take into account another factor to survive each stage: oxygen. It may not be so important at first, but from a certain point in the adventure you will have to be aware of your air level so as not to drown. One can either reach an air bubble which checkpoint, or pick up oxygen bottles along the way. A nice addition so that “we don’t rest on our laurels” with every challenge or pitfall we encounter along the way.
One more game and I quit
Without a doubt, Surface Rush is intended for short games. It is a good “digestive” if we are faced with a more complex title, and it is great to start your gaming session with a few games with the Jandusoft title. However, it has its limits. To begin with, although there are a variety of situations with explosive barrels, interdimensional portals or thrusters that will make each phase different, the environment is always the same.
Each phase is overly repeated, each ending is the same, and while there is an intrinsic story that can be unlocked, there is no incentive beyond making each phase perfect. A change of environment every few phases would have done wonders for him, even including other playable mechanics would be welcome. At this point, we can say that this game was originally designed (and published) for mobile phones, its limits therefore have a meaning.
Look for a clean suit
at least we will have PumPum customization, which adds another playable layer due to the change in stats that each skin possesses. There will be “combinations” that give greater speed and lower oxygen supply, and others that do just the opposite. Depending on the game mode we are in, one type of character or another may suit us better, so The purchase of this character customization will have to be done with a head.
To finish “closing the loop” with customization, you can also choose the type of wake it leaves, and even the color of our little critter. But it will no longer affect the attributes we previously selected.
Surface rush conclusion
DrimTiGames and Jandusoft bring to our consoles a simple and direct proposal for the whole family. With only the directional stick and our precision when pushing PumPum, we will have to complete the objectives of each phase in the best possible way. Its scheme of short and concise games is ideal for disconnecting from other denser games, and thanks to the four modes that Surface Rush contains, we will always find the one we want the most.
The worst thing about the game is its constant repetition of levels. We have the same composition of scenarios, screen elements and ways to complete each level. That’s what it takes to find a mobile game port… At least we find objects and enemies along the way that will bring some diversity to each step, octopuses that will chase us, fish with evil intentions or portals that will teleport us to other realms.
