Hello heroes! I’m Israel Mallen, PR at Catness Games. We are the publishers behind it Chronicles of 2 Heroesa retro platformer inspired by masterpieces like The messenger And Ninja Gaiden. This epic quest contains Metroidvania elements and a unique mechanic: you can switch heroes in real time!
A year ago, this delightfully pixelated adventure received a ton of support on Kickstarter. Now Chronicles of 2 Heroes is ready for release on Xbox Series XS, PC and Xbox One on May 26th. So if you’re a fan of challenging retro-style platform games, mark that on your calendar!
Meet the heroes of feudal Japan
In this game, Amaterasu rules feudal Japan with her fearsome army of yokai, and only Kensei and Ayame have what it takes to stop them. These siblings have trained for years to defeat the Goddess, and each has their own unique fighting style.
As a samurai, Kensei has dedicated his life to mastering the art of katana. This deadly weapon is flawless in close combat and capable of deflecting projectiles. Kensei wears bright red armor, although it does affect his mobility. Although he can’t jump, he can dash at lightning speed and smash his way through enemies.
On the other hand, Ayame is a secret kunoichi trained in ninja arts. Favoring mobility and stealth over melee, she can throw Kunai from afar to take out enemies before they even know what hit her. If an enemy spots her, Ayame can use ninjutsu techniques to dodge attacks and disappear behind enemies.
Switch them
As you can see, these two heroes play completely differently. Ayame excels at agile platforming, while Kensei is a pro at hand-to-hand combat. But what happens when you encounter an obstacle that requires both skills? Luckily, you can switch between them in real time!
Just press a button to switch between Ayame and Kensei at any time. Most levels will have you switching characters frequently, but that’s part of the fun.
Picture this: an undead archer perched on a high ledge with huge gaps between platforms. Use Ayame to get higher, then switch to Kensei and run through the gaps while dodging the arrows. Finally, use your trusty katana to take out the yokai once you get close enough.
Do you feel confident? Try to deflect his projectiles instead of charging through them. Or switch to Ayame, teleport behind the archers and move on without fighting anyone. Thanks to the switching mechanics, you can approach the same problem in different ways. Combine Kensei and Ayame’s abilities to rid feudal Japan of Amaterasu’s wrath.
