As we delve into Season 10 of Overwatch 2, we’re excited to introduce our newest hero, Venture. We also take a first look at our new game mode Clash and updates on acquiring new heroes. So get ready for an epic dig of greatness!
You can’t spell adventure without risk
Break new ground with the latest Damage hero venture, a spirited archaeologist who translates his passion for history into courageous exploits. Equipped with a massive drill and an arsenal of seismic capabilities, Venture brings a fresh dynamic to the battlefield (and below). Outsmart your opponents and claim victory by diving, digging, drilling and causing massive damage.
Harnessing the power of his Smart Excavator, Venture primarily releases unstable seismic energy that explodes, dealing blast damage. Their cave ability allows them to become invulnerable underground while gathering momentum for a calculated ambush upon resurfacing. Then use Drill Dash to sprint forward to create some space while knocking your opponents back. If you’re ready to completely obliterate anyone stupid enough to stand in your way, Venture can unleash a massive shockwave with his Tectonic Shock Ultimate. Whether you’re traversing a secret underground path or engaging in melee combat, Venture offers versatile gameplay that will inflict devastating damage on your opponents.
Jump straight into battle with Venture and All Overwatch Heroes
We want every player to experience all the excitement that each hero has to offer. So starting with Venture, all past, present and future heroes will be instantly unlocked for everyone who completes their new player experience. Since Venture has also gained some fantastic field experience through his Hero Trial, we’ve made some adjustments to his loadout and are excited to announce that we’ll be bringing Venture into Competitive mode immediately at the start of Season 10 tomorrow.
This is a pretty big change from previous Heroes, but we’ve always wanted to bring new Heroes into Competitive Mode when a new season for Overwatch 2 launches. In the past, we wanted to ensure that new heroes were free of bugs or outstanding balance issues and give players enough time to unlock a hero from the Battle Pass. With the recent Hero Trial and all Heroes now unlocked, we are confident that Venture is ready to jump into the action right away. So, venture out and take the first step – everything.

To this end, coins from the weekly challenges will flow into the Battle Pass, making it easier for you to earn them as you play. But that’s not all – we’re increasing the number of coins you can earn per season. Up to 600 Overwatch Coins are now available through the Battle Pass.

Dynamic spawns and optimized map routes speed your return to battle and maximize the time you spend in the heat of battle.
The Clash trial lets you explore Hanaoka, a brand new map spanning an area in the popular Hanamura District, offering new battlefields to conquer with a familiar feel. Don’t miss the Clash trial, available now in the Arcade from April 16th to 29th.
Wreck and Roll with hero updates
Wrecking Ball is coming to market with a few new upgrades to its equipment. Wrecking Ball can now protect his teammates when advancing into enemy lines and using the Adaptive Shield, providing the ability to transfer some of the additional shield health to nearby allies. Grappling Claw gets a new upgrade for more control when swinging: now you can press Primary Fire while the Claw is attached to the map terrain and pull back the Wrecking Ball for extra mobility. Finally, Grappling Claw’s cooldown has been adjusted to partially refund if you don’t reach fireball speed.
There are also a number of other balance changes coming this season. Sombra and Tracer have been strong favorites since we introduced our core gameplay updates last season, so we’re nerfing their loadouts. Sombra’s Virus will deal less damage over time to offset the initial burst damage, and Tracer’s Pulse Bomb will now be harder to land on targets to level the playing field a bit when playing against her. At the beginning of this season, many of our tanks will receive small improvements to give heroes like Reinhardt more impact with abilities like Earthshatter. Finally, we’re shifting the power between damage and healing for some of our support heroes, including Moira and Illari, and giving Lifeweaver some buffs to better tune his gear. Check out these changes in detail in our Preview patch notes in the forums.
Updates for Competitive and more
We have some important updates to Competitive Play: First, you can now unlock any golden weapon with 2024 Competitive Points. However, note that you will not be able to spend the balance of your Legacy Competitive Points with your 2024 Points when redeeming them for a gold weapon variant.
We’re making it easier for friends to play together competitively by removing grouping restrictions. Groups with very different skill levels are combined into a “broad group”. These Wide Groups only ever play against other Wide Groups, meaning your matches may be a little sillier, the queue will take longer, and you’ll see fewer wins and losses added to your rank after games. Solo players will never encounter large groups.
The Defense Matrix is receiving an update with new updates to the exit penalty for both unranked and competitive modes. Finally, Streamer Protect now includes server-side features that allow you to hide your name from teammates and opponents in your games, instead of just hiding it in your own game client. Learn more about grouping restrictions, mitigating game disruptions, and other future updates in our latest Developer update and our Defense Matrix blog.
Fair and fun competitive play is a priority for our team and we will continue to improve our defensive matrix to minimize disruptive play.
Begin your adventure and jump into the competition with this exciting new chapter in Overwatch 2. Log in tomorrow and discover the awesomeness of Season 10 firsthand. See you on (or below) the battlefield, heroes!
