With the acquisition of Activision-Blizzard, we’re talking a lot about the mobile market and more generally the cloud gaming sector. And as Microsoft prepares for that future, it’s not the only one. Another actor also seems to want to position himself and it’s Take-Two.
The American company has in fact announced that it has acquired the GameClub mobile gaming service for an undisclosed sum. The information went a little under the radar but got through gaming industry Today.
GameClub was launched in 2018 to bring classic and premium mobile titles to current devices via a monthly subscription. In 2019, the service raised $2.5 million to focus more on the premium mobile gaming segment.
It’s not as big a player as Apple Arcade or Google Pass, but this acquisition clearly shows the desire of traditional players in the industry to strengthen their position in this segment. In the case of Take-Two, the publisher should be able to find synergies with its own Zynga division on this medium.
