A new threat looms on the horizon and the kingdom calls for help. The massive expansion Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreakis now available for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows!
Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak takes the gameplay of the base game to the next level with new hunting actions, locations, challenges and fearsome monsters. If you haven’t joined the hunt yet, try the base game Monster Hunter Ascension Today in Game Pass! If you’re ready to achieve master rank in the massive expansion, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is available at a discounted price for Game Pass subscribers.
But what exactly do you get with this expansion? The answer: hours and hours of additional content to the already massive base game. Let’s break down what you get.
A new story in a distant land
After saving the village of Kamura from the disaster in Monster Hunter Ascension, your paths will cross with Fiorayne, a knight of the royal kingdom (as well as Rondine’s sister). Together they sail to their kingdom home – a land threatened by the emergence of monsters that have grown unusually violent.
Enter your new base of operations in Elgado Outpost and meet a colorful cast of characters who will help you in your quest. Together you will face powerful monsters and solve the mystery that threatens the kingdom.
A kingdom full of monsters
At the forefront of Sunbreak’s new monsters are the dangerous Three Lords: the massive Garangolm, the ghastly wolf-like Lunagaron, and the game’s flagship monster, Malzeno. The sinister Elder Dragon Malzeno is at the center of the mysterious behavior of the monsters in Sunbreak. You will face this regal and bloodthirsty menace as you blast your way through the dangers that await you.
Sunbreak also adds several returning monsters from previous titles in the series, including the spiky flying wyvern Espinas, the electrified Astalos, and the aggressive and frenzied fan favorite Gore Magala.
With the addition of new subspecies and variants of monsters, the overall roster of monsters in Master Rank is huge and varied. Oh, and monsters that are already in the base game also return to the Master rank with new moves. So even if you’ve already had a few fights, you still have a lot of surprises to deal with.
New places to fight
You hunt these monsters in two new locations. The Citadel is a large new location set around a majestic ancient castle. It’s a diverse environment, ranging from forested areas, icy mountains, and ancient ruins lit by pink and purple moonlight. The jungle is a recurring location from previous Monster Hunter games that should be familiar to series veterans. It abounds with relaxing waterfront areas and picturesque greenery, but don’t be fooled by its peaceful vibe.
An enhanced hunting experience
If the monsters in Master Rank have more tricks up their sleeves, it only makes sense that you’d get some of your own too! Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak builds on the skills of the base game to add even more to your toolbox.
Each of the 14 weapon types will all receive new Silkbind moves, allowing you to further customize your playstyle. The Dual Blades, for example, have a new Silkbind move called Spiral Slash that lets you fly forward into the monsters like a drill. Or how about the Switch Ax, which gains the Elemental Burst Counter Silkbind Move, which allows you to charge up and unleash a powerful Burst Counter if you release it right when a monster attacks.
With so many options for moves, now you can change your Switch skill sets on the fly with Switch Skill Swap. Take them both on a hunt and switch back and forth depending on the situation. As you switch sets, dodge in every direction, allowing you to maintain a strong stance against the monster.
There is much more to discover in Sunbreak, including new species of endemic creatures that will come in handy in a sticky situation. Try the puppet spider, which will cling to a monster and let you pull it against a wall or into another monster! You can find them in both new and existing base game locations.
Hunt with your new friends!
Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak you can go hunting with your friends from Kamura and Elgado. In the single-player-only Follower Collab Quests, you can hunt with Elgado allies like Fiorayne and Luchika, as well as Kamura friends like Hinoa, Minoto, and more.
Each of the henchmen has their own weapons and attacks that they are best at, and you can help choose their loadouts to suit your hunting style. Continue through the companion quests to recruit each character for support surveys. Eventually, you’ll be able to take them with you on almost every quest in the game.
Even more hunting goodness!
The massive expansion will be released with all content up to Free Title Update 3. This includes a wealth of new game mechanics, a new location, several event quests and additional monsters. Take on the elusive Lucent Nargacuga in the added Forlorn Arena location, challenge the powerful and unpredictable Chaotic Gore Magala, or progress through the end-game Anomaly Investigations to further power up your gear.
Also included are some of the toughest challenges in the game: Risen Elder Dragons. Take on the Risen Chameleos, Risen Kushala Daora, and Risen Teostra if you want to test your hunting skills. Much luck!
However, this does not mark the end of the updates. More updates too Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak will be added later this summer that will feature even more challenging monsters and endgame additions.
If you’re looking to jump into everything above as soon as possible, we’ve added the free Black Belt S armor set and high tier Defender weapon tree via a free update. This support gear will help you speed through the story of Monster Hunter Ascension and reach the master rank even faster.
