In a new interview, Director Fumihiko Yasuda talks about Team Ninja’s future plans.
In an extensive interview with The player Nioh Director Fumihiko Yasuda gave details of the Complete Edition of Nioh 2, which will be released on February 5th for PlayStation 5 and PC, as well as some insights into Team Ninja’s current plans for the future.
There are currently no plans for Nioh 3 as the development studio is focused on working on new titles. After creating some new projects, however, Yasuda has the goal to return to Nioh with new experiences and skills and to create a new part of the series, in which the goal is to surpass Nioh and Nioh 2 in size and quality again.
The director also mentions that he would like to get Ryu Hayabusa to appear in a new game. After all, the main protagonist of Ninja Gaiden is one of the most important characters in the company. He would like to give details on this as soon as possible.
Yasuda makes no secret of the fact that many team members are big fans of From Software’s games and that they also provide some inspiration for Team Ninja titles. Regarding the reasons for the general rise of the Souls genre, he sees the freedom of the players to be able to master demanding challenges with their own strategies:
“I really feel that with the Souls genre, and the Masocore genre in general, some of the reasons that they are so popular is that the player can really choose their own strategy to overcome challenges and obstacles. So it is the level of satisfaction at mastering or overcoming a challenge mixed with the fact that you can develop your own strategy or method for overcoming these various obstacles. So there are games that are simpler or more straightforward and that also has its own flair. It’s great that there are tons of different other titles out there. The Soulsborne or Masocore genre generally offers players something that no other genre really offers them at the moment. And for players who try one of these titles and then face a great challenge in it, that sense of satisfaction and accomplishment is why they really invest in it and then just keep playing it, potentially learning to love it, and great for the rest of their lives Become fans of the series. When asked about the advantages of the Xbox Series X | S and PlayStation 5, he replies that Team Ninja had already made their first experiences with the new generation of consoles when they developed Nioh 2 Complete Edition for the PlayStation 5.
