The tech chief of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio wants a Dragon Engine for high-spec consoles.
Yutaka Ito would like to develop a new Dragon Engine. The technical director at Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio for the video game series Yakuza and Like a Dragon imagines an engine for high-spec consoles.
However, the desire for a new engine is personal and does not reflect any of the studio’s plans, as he said in an interview automat notes.
Ito said: “The Like a Dragon series has evolved technologically with each title, but the heart of the series is the Dragon Engine developed for Yakuza 6. With that in mind, I would personally like to try to develop a new Dragon Engine specialized for high-spec consoles and use it to create a new action-adventure game. This is just my personal opinion and has nothing to do with the studio’s current plans.”
Developing a new engine or improving the Dragon Engine is also likely to cost a lot of money. Despite the position Ito finds himself in, a future-ready engine could still be a long time coming.
