The Callisto Protocol is a howl of love to cult horror and suspense licenses of the last 40 years. State-of-the-art, this descent into hell in the not-quite-dead moon of Callisto will keep you in suspense for about fifteen hours. Combat is as brutal as it is tempting, although the very frequent autosaves limit the difficulty. If the French version sometimes leaves something to be desired (dubbing, sound), it remains a technically convincing, gory and jubilant spectacle, sometimes masochistic, but hardly frightening, at least for those who are used to it Foreigner and other xenomorphs. What’s next!?
Tester’s Note: The following screenshots are from the very first few hours
Callisto, c’est “the place for thrills”
Callisto, we don’t go there for tourism. Or the masochistic version. This dead moon of Jupiter is under the control of a mega corporation, a classic of the SF genre extraterrestrial. A cliché, then, which always has its minor effect, namely being immediately crushed by an almighty machine. The UJC, United Jupiter Corporation fills this role perfectly, staging antagonists who are not very virtuous. Oh, by the way, the nice thing about this title is that Nobody is either all white or all black. For example, the main hero, Jacob Lee, is a villain from outer space…
That’s crazy too successful genre mix. The Callisto Protocol starts out as a prison break movie and then transitions into pure action style extraterrestrial or Empty room. With an artistic direction of “Hard Science” as cold and metallic as a nightmarish prison, then in a flood of organic matter lining absolutely everything, fans ofextraterrestrial and from Empty room will not be disappointed. Everything is rusty, dirty, spewing steam or suppurating blood. Hearing them rumble, creak and moan, too, one would swear the installations are in full mourning. Guaranteed chills.
Callisto isn’t just locked up in her private prison at UJC. No, the mega corporation hides many shameful secrets with it“It will take about fifteen hours to partially uncover. Anyway, this time is enough to inscribe in blood a new mythology of SF its own strong and powerful identity. And after I finished my journey, I had only one desire to explore more.
In space, no one will hear you enjoy
I spoke earlier Empty room. Of course, similarities are obvious, like the health indicator visible on the character, here a chip carefully (it’s wrong) screwed onto the back of the neck. Or that kick frantically pounding the ground to finish off the deformed monsters once and for all. Or finally the penchant for masochism and torture. Yes of course, Empty room. But be careful anyway, here Jacob will not be able to freely explore the whole moon, it’s not a terrible Metroidvania. The Callisto Protocol is divided into chapters leave little rest, with a mandatory visit to the sewers and very disgusting shoals. There is even a very short passageway on the surface that will delight those who worship the thing
In terms of clashes, there are also two spaces, two atmospheres. As long as Jacob is trying to break free from prison hell UJC / creature invasion, Melee combat takes precedence for a brutal, original outcome, and I have to say that even once you’ve mastered the dodges, it turns out to be entertaining. The more Jakob puts together a real arsenal, the more The Callisto Protocol furiously slips into the uncompromising TPS for sometimes breathtaking and grueling combat. Especially since, unlike 99% of other productions, we can’t necessarily decipher the room we arrive in. No obvious covers, no red barrels, monsters sometimes show up when you least expect them. A treat for maintaining pressure and hypervigilance.
If she’s fast like the monsters are powerful, Death is never a punishment. In fact, checkpoints are very common, allowing you to try your luck again without having to repeat a long sequence. So it’s very convenient, but still takes the tension out of the journey through Callisto’s bowels…
A five star cast
The quality cast as well as a Technology and staging at height get you in the mood without delay. The facial modeling is stunning for cinematic cutscenes. Also in the game We take full eyes and mouth. One or the other panorama stands out, but almost everything takes place in very successful ailing and oppressive installations, claustrophobic renunciation.
in the ray of remorse, the French version is not complete. The words are often frankly out of sync with the characters’ lips. Special mention for the main hero’s tone, which is way off the mark and often wrong. Finally, within the same dialogue, certain phrases appear muffled compared to others. I can only advise you to play in the original version.
Finally, I despair of not being able to roll when I need to rid myself of an infection. Also a pity the impossibility of changing shoulders when aiming. However, this remains very little compared to This game brilliantly mixes survival, horror, dripping SF and gore. Starting a franchise (fingers crossed).
