Atari has announced Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration Expanded Edition which will add more content to the original 2022 edition.
“Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration” was released on November 11, 2022. This release included a curated list of over 90 classic games, interviews with the original developers and industry leaders. A unique experience. Now, Atari 50: The The Birthday Celebration Extended Edition adds two new timelines and 39 games to Atari’s playable retrospective.
Chronology The wider world of Atari, includes 19 playable games and eight videos. These take us on a series of anecdotes from Atari’s history, showing how the brand has continued to influence creators and fans over the decades. Highlights of the new timeline include a deep dive into Berzerk, the explosive robot from Stern Electronics.
Nois will showcase the unusual and underrated innovations and hidden gems of the late 80s. We also have a feature on the artist. Evelyne Setowho helped create Atari’s iconic “Fuji” logo. In these interviews, the creator of Pong, Al Alcorn, explains how Breakout came to be. Finally we will have an immersion in the role of fans in the discovery of new prototypes, the creation of home games and the preservation of Atari history.
The second timeline of Atari 50: Anniversary Celebration Expanded Edition focuses on the first console war. This includes 20 playable games and half a dozen videos. It tells the story of the video game industry’s first major console war between the Atari 2600 and Mattel’s Intellivision.
The team of Digital Eclipse explores the rivalry, including Mattel’s quixotic decision to create games for the competing Atari 2600. Highlights a selection of M Network games, including some fan favorites; a mix of Atari and M Network sports games, and some prototypes rare Atari 2600 and 5200.

The news interviews include former Intellivision game director Don Daglow, programmer Jane Terjung, David Crane and Garry Kitchen of Activision. Also, programmer Dennis Debro and historians Leonard Herman, writer and video game historian. And interview with Mike Mika, head Donkey Kong on Atari 2600.
A standard physical edition and another with SteelBook will be available, but neither of them will reach Xbox. Steelbook includes art maps Atari 2600 and miniature arcade marquee boards. It also comes with a business card that replicates the one originally used by Atari founder Al Alcorn) as well as the SteelBook case.
Atari 50: 50th Anniversary Celebration Extended Edition will be released on Xbox Series, One, PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC on October 25. Owners of Atari 50: The Anniversary Collection will be able to access the new content as DLC throughout 2024.
