That Grounded team and Obsidian Entertainment are thrilled to announce that over 15 million players have entered the Backyard. When Grounded fully released just a few months ago, the backyard was inundated with gamers wanting to see what life was like on a micro level. Whether you’ve been with us since the beginning or just recently accepted your first mite, we want to thank you for being part of this amazing community.
Since the Early Access launch Grounded was a game developed by the community and its full release hasn’t changed that. Thanks to feedback from newcomers and old friends, the team has a special update ready just in time for the holidays. A Holiday Treat brings with it a variety of quality of life features, as well as some exciting new gameplay features and content to help those exploring the b ackyard.
One of the new gameplay features that will make a lot of people happy is the possibility of the ZIP.R lines going up. Players can no longer just descend on their zip lines scattered around the courtyard, but also ascend to get even faster to places they want to explore. There is also a new trap that will help protect your base from invading creatures. When it comes to the base, this update also brings a ton of new base decoration and cosmetic items like new chairs, dressers, half stairs, and even a holiday “tree” to display in December.
The really big changes come in the Quality of Life updates that the community has been asking for. The big one is an additional row of slots in the player inventory. This will be useful for those who want to carry multiple weapon types and armor sets depending on the situation, but also want to harvest and gather whatever they can find. Speaking of carrying weapons for different situations, there are now multiple hot pouches that can be scrolled through, giving players even more access to items in their inventory without having to open the menu.
For those who don’t want to wake up in the middle of the night, we’ve changed the way sleeping works so you can wake up after sunrise. Edged weapon fans can pre-cook their meals, as creatures now drop cooked meat instead of raw. Toasty! And players can now turn off their own nametags for everyone else, so hide and seek can begin now. But that’s not all! Anyone can now name follower markers, build from nearby chests and pallets, and labs have gained a new “Water Cooler” building to quench thirst on those long lab trips.
Grounded is available now on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows 10/11 and Steam for $39.99.
