We enter a sewer and we travel in time to remember cult games thanks to TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection
Nostalgia is a great claim in the world of video games, and if it has such characteristic icons, much more. We’ve already had our share of good times thanks to Dotemu’s work with TMNT: Shredder’s RevengeAnd now it’s time to get to the bottom of it. At the root of nostalgia. because if friends, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection is not just any adaptation. It’s reliving those moments with our desktop, portable or recreational console enjoying the slaps they gave Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael. We will only need our pizza, our soda and our feet on the table to feel young again.
Choose your favorite turtle!
It couldn’t be anything but Konami with digital eclipse who bring us this extensive collection of classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. From those titles that appeared on the Game Boy, through 8-bit and 16-bit consoles and found their way into arcades, We will have a total of 13 games for the enjoyment of the player. All this, not counting the Japanese versions that some titles also have. Without a doubt, a good time to remember a title that captivated us as children or to discover a hidden gem that has escaped our radar. Because there is no bad game, I assure you right now.
Of course, in this review, I’m not going to review each game separately. It bears repeating none of them continue to maintain very good gameplay, regardless of the genre they belong to. Above all abounds the typical beat them (or “me against the neighborhood”), although there is also the possibility of enjoying a 1 against 1 fight, as if it were a Street Fighter II. Keeping your distance, of course. Special mention to a title that I keep with great affection, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: Radical Rescuewhere we will be directly in a very interesting metroidvania for its time.
Pizza with extra cheese
Although we can enjoy each of them in an original way, it is true that some of these games that make up the TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection have certain technical problems. Not because of a portability issue, but because of the time these games themselves have. Konami wanted to provide the best possible experience, and for this it has included options in some games to eliminate jerks, improve fluidity and even a slight graphic wash that softens those wild polygons of the time. I already say, options that don’t waste an iota of the gas that every job wastes. Items that are regularly seen in recent collections will not be lacking either. Quickly load and save, rewind and cheat to get infinite lives, among other implementations.
In addition, four of these games (Arcade, Turtles in Time, The Hyperstone Heist and Tournament Fighters) contain online multiplayer, which translates into guaranteed fun among friends. Unfortunately, this aspect was not yet available in the pre-launch version, although we bet online performance will be optimal so that there is no bad experience.
We will even appreciate be bop and Rocksteady
Beyond the games themselves, we have additions that will surely take away more than one gamer’s childhood. In TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection, we will see all the covers of the games, covers of their comics, sketches and screenshots of each of the seasons that they had in their television series. (Personal note: Look at how these reptiles have changed in design over the years.) It never hurts to have those extras even though, to me, they’re a bit lacking.
I don’t want you to think wrong. It’s a pleasure to take control with this type of game. But as a compilation, TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection could have given more of itself. I lack curiosities of every development. I miss new additions that complement the original adventure. Missing additional challenges. Something to pay a vibrant tribute to these celebrities who entertained us in the evening in front of our television.
Vice afternoon after school
O ther than that, everything was wonderful. I enjoyed each game as in its time, rcommemorating unique moments at the controls of the console, but 30 years later.
Conclusion of TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection
Konami and Digital Eclipse throw nostalgia with this collection that fools the famous ninja turtles. And I assure you now that it is nostalgia for good, with 13 well-differentiated games that have appeared on various consoles and arcades. In addition, we will have technical improvements if we want a smoother experience, and there will even be online features in some of their games.
Of course, as a tribute, it is insufficient. It’s worth that TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection has some cool extras like covers of its games, sketches, and more. But an interview with its creators, a documentary about it, or an extra addition to each title wouldn’t have hurt at all. Although I also tell you that to properly pay homage to these mutant creatures, nothing better than putting your cap on backwards, eating a pizza and inviting your colleagues to see who is the most powerful turtle in the group. .
