According to creative director Sam Lake, there were many concepts for Alan Wake 2, of which the most ambitious ultimately won the bid.
Alan Wake 2, the long-awaited sequel to the 2010 Xbox 360 horror title Alan Wake, will be released in mid-October. Unlike in the debut, this time there are two protagonists between which players can switch freely at a certain point.
In a new “Behind the Scenes” developer diary, Creative Director Sam Lake from developer Remedy Entertainment confirms that the long wait was not due to a lack of ideas:
“Between each game project we made, we created a new concept for Alan Wake 2. It’s been frustrating over the years that we haven’t been able to start and get excited about it and then it won’t happen.”
In the end, they decided on the most exciting, interesting and ambitious of all these concepts and discarded previous concepts. In retrospect, they were very happy with this decision, said Lake.
Alan Wake 2 will be released on October 17th, 2023 digitally only for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC.
