We’ve been speculating for a long time about what the new NetherRealm game will be. The study does not let go and everything remains a mystery which, from time to time, reveals new clues.
And that’s exactly what happened today, the franchise’s 30th anniversary, where we see the makers of the study rejoicing over the anniversary.
New timelines in Mortal Kombat?
But the important part comes in the closing bars, where we see a series of grains of sand falling in what appears to be an hourglass. The camera focuses on one of them and we see how it explodes into several small pieces. What does that mean?
In the words of Ed Boon in his Twitter where he shared the video, it’s a little not-so-subtle glimpse of what they have in store for us in the future. And the only thing that comes to mind is that the new Mortal Kombat (whether it’s 12 or whatever you want to call it) will introduce a new calendar. Something that already happened in the ninth installment, when we saw a time travel in the story of the first game, which was maintained until the release of the last installment.
In other words, the new chapter of the franchise would present a new time jump or the possibility of visiting a different alternate line. Perhaps ramifications in new timelines of Motal Kombat 11 events?
