When we started planning content for the final DLC for CARS 3 projectWe asked our automotive partners what they have in their electric vehicle pipeline. This is one of the more rewarding parts of my job because right now the EV area is where the action takes place and when we saw the Audi AI: RACE we knew this was the one we needed to get in the game .
The ultimate toy for track days. What makes this car even more exciting is the unique concept – Audi’s vision for the sports car of tomorrow.
And that’s exactly the kind of content we wanted to bring Electrical package.
The Audi AI: RACE is basically a two-seater “wing car” with tons of downforce and LMP1 performance. A push of a button, however, moves the driver’s seat to a central position in the cockpit (“monoposto” style) to transform it into a single-seater racing car.
But as cool as that is, it got even better when Audi sent us the CADs and we realized that this mixture of aluminum, carbon and multi-material composite hides the all-winning Le Mans Audi R18 e-tron Quattro- Suspension along with three electric motors – one at the front (200 hp) and two at the rear (470 hp). With Boost it’s good for 765 hp.
In English, that’s 0-100kmh in about two seconds!
The performance derived from motorsport does not stop here either: the quattro all-wheel drive and the batteries positioned in the middle of the engine for optimum driving dynamics make the Audi AI: RACE an “emotion without emissions”.
Speaking of emotion: I’m the guy in the studio who gets to drive our simulated cars first. So you can imagine how exciting it was to finally test them out. Only one of these cars was built, and as far as I know, Audi hasn’t pushed it to its limits, so I became what I thought was an Audi test driver … right before I crossed the first corner for miles!
My excuse This thing is incredibly fast and Electric vehicles can be a bit confusing at first as the torque is both immense and instantaneous. Sad truth? I had no more talent long before this Audi no longer had any grip …
The design ideas for this car are also wild. Since this is an electric vehicle, Audi was able to implement all sorts of innovative concepts such as the steep dipping of the bonnet, which gives the driver an incredible view. From the cockpit, you can see straight out onto the road through the openings in the ventilated hood that allows you to hit points with amazing precision. The dashboard essentially consists of translucent glass onto which all data is projected.
It’s all very science fiction and a bit like sitting in a glass house, and because there’s no “engine,” you can hear all the other noises that an internal combustion engine would cover, according to lead audio designer Tim Shepherd and sound designer Owen Packer had to get creative with the sounds. You will find that wind, road and landing gear noise are far more audible and contribute to a unique listening experience and sense of speed.
Drivers can also hear the wind shift noises that we have faded in as part of our audio reflection system (on lampposts, bridges, etc.), as well as the two main layers of the Audi AI: RACE Audio – the physical sound of the electric motor (which is not as dominant here as it is with others EV cars in the game) and a designed layer based on the aesthetics of the vehicle and made up of seams of synthesized sound. Both layers carry multiple harmonics that grow and mix and help convey the tremendous amount of torque available to you through additional modulation based on the load.
When we asked Audi what kind of paint job we could use, they sent us their own exclusive Audi colors for this car: there are seven, including tactical green (my favorite) and bare aluminum.
The car itself is just a breathtaking piece of technology: the fold-out rear wing, the colossal rear diffuser that can be moved down to increase downforce, and the front end with the Audi hexagon on the single-frame grille.
Love them or hate them, electric vehicles usher in a whole new era in sports car design and performance. Get a foretaste of this future with the Audi AI: RACE.

The future is electric and is part of the CARS 3: Electric Pack project. Get to know 4 of the fastest electric vehicles in the world, including the 2020 Porsche Taycan Turbo S and its 1.3 G acceleration with warp drive, the 2020 Volkswagen ID.R that humiliated Pikes Peak, the 2020 Audi AI: RACE concept with its “monoposto” vision of the future and the refined power of the NIO EP9 super sports car. Own the future today along with dozens of customization options. Content: – 2020 Porsche Taycan Turbo S “Soul, electrified” is the Porsche slogan for the first EV sports car that brings everything you know and love about Porsche into the EV sector. Precise handling – as fast around the ring as a Porsche Cayman GT4 – allied with 750 PS and 0-100 km / h in 2.5 seconds with a brain that distorts 1.3 G at full acceleration. Throw the world’s first “multispeed” gearbox into an EV car and all the pedigree that Porsche has gained from racing for 70 years, and that is the future – today. – 2020 Volkswagen ID.R The Volkswagen ID.R has destroyed successful records around the world. Pikes Peak? Humiliated. The ring? Conquered. Good wood? Complete record. Then VW made it even faster with this development, the Volkswagen ID.R 2020, which blew up everything that was thought possible on Bilster Berg. Developed as an uncompromising and lightweight prototype with immense downforce, this is the first fully electric racing car from the VW brand. The average Gs for his record run on the Ring was 3.5, while the power comes from two electric motors with 680 hp – in a car weighing just over 1,000 kg. – 2020 Audi AI: RACE The design and the technical, fully electric concept car from Audi is called Audi AI: RACE and is the vision of what the sports car of tomorrow could offer. In a word: speed. Innovation starts with the cockpit, where the driver’s seat can be positioned in the middle to make it a traditional “monoposto”. The battery is positioned to feel like a mid-engine, while aluminum, carbon and multi-material composites cut the weight to less than 1,550 kg for handling and balance. Add 3 electric motors (1 front and 2 for the rear wheels) for 765 hp in boost mode or in real power 0-100 km / h in an instant over 2 seconds. LMP1-like prototype performance. – 2019 NIO EP9 The NIO EP9 is a two-seater supercar that brings NIO’s entire Formula E pedigree to the road and track. It holds world records for production cars on many tracks around the world, including a stonking 6: 45.90 around the ring. That comes from 335 hp on each wheel, all-wheel drive (and single-wheel drive for handling), advanced torque vectoring and a full carbon chassis based on LMP regs. With a total weight of only 1,735 kg, this EV monster reaches 100 km / h in 2.7 s and 300 km / h in 15 s up to a top speed of 350 km / h.
