Atari and Digital Eclipse announce the first DLC for “Atari 50th: The Anniversary Celebration”.
Atari and developer Digital Eclipse are pleased to announce an important addition to Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration.
Featuring 19 playable games and eight video segments in an entirely new timeline, The Wider World of Atari delves into a number of stories from Atari’s history and shows how Atari has influenced creators and fans over the decades.
The DLC will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Series S|X, as well as PlayStation 4 & 5. Owners of the original game on the Atari VCS will receive the DLC content for free as part of an update.
The 19 new games are from MetalJesusRockswho partnered with Atari for the announcement, was featured in a video on YouTube on Wednesday, September 25th at 10:00 a.m. EST.
The Wider World of Atari includes new interviews, old commercials, historical artifacts, and more, all researched and presented in Digital Eclipse’s signature style. Highlights of the new timeline include unusual and underappreciated innovations and hidden gems from the late 1980s; a spotlight on artist Evelyn Seto, who helped design the iconic “Fuji” Atari logo; Pong inventor Al Alcorn, who explains the creation of Breakout; and an examination of the fan community’s role in discovering unreleased prototypes, developing “homebrew” games, and preserving Atari history.
Fans attending the Portland Retro Gaming Expo (PRGE) can learn more about the DLC and the Atari 50: Anniversary Celebration project on Sunday, September 29th during a panel discussion with Digital Eclipse Producer Chris Kohler, Atari VP of Games Ethan Stearns, and Atari founder Nolan Bushnell.
A second DLC titled The first console war will be released worldwide on November 8th alongside the physical release of Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration Expanded Edition on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 for $39.99. The physical version includes the original game and both DLCs.
