The Witcher developer CD Projekt RED wants to remain independent and has no plans to become part of a larger company.
In one interview said the president Adam Kiciński of CD Project RED when asked whether the Polish studio could possibly be bought by another company that they have no such plans and are not looking for investments or minority stakes from other companies.
“We have been repeating for years that we want to remain independent and not plan to become part of a larger company,” says Kiciński. “We are also not looking for a strategic investor.”
However, Kiciński also said that CD Projekt RED itself will continue to examine the possibility of acquiring other studios. CD Projekt acquired Digital Scapes earlier this year and re-established it as CD Projekt RED Vancouver. In October, the indie developer The Molasses Flood was acquired.
“As part of the strategy update, we announced increased activities in the M&A area, which we have confirmed with two transactions in the past few months,” said Kiciński. “Both fit perfectly into our development plans – the Vancouver team has joined CD Projekt Red while The Molasses Flood is working on a game as part of one of our franchises.”
“We are not ruling out further transactions of this type in the future,” he continued. “The goal of our acquisitions is to strengthen development teams and receive additional support in implementing our strategy.”
“That is why we are primarily interested in experience and skills in this type of investment, and we attach great importance to whether a particular team fits into the culture of our group.”
