The Xbox Series X Mini Fridge Has Arrived

The XBOX Series X was first introduced to the world on May 5, 2020, with a very short teaser. It was from this exact moment that the Internet began to be filled with jokes and comparisons about the appearance of the new slot machine. Microsoft. Of all of them, it seems that the one that struck the most, even among company executives, was that the new machine looked like a refrigerator. Such was the point of the joke, that 2 days later, during the official presentation, we would see the first glimpse of the console-fridge. Aaron Greenberg I would make the official presentation with a digitized background of a kitchen. In this one, the refrigerator would be a giant Series X. Let us recall again the glorious presentation of the beast:

You’d think the meme stuck here, within the span of a day, but no, the joke was just getting started. A few weeks later, they delivered several giant refrigerators to iJustinea well-known influencer in the United States and to rapper Snoop Dog. We don’t know if it was effective, but as a viral campaign it was certainly original. All the media praised the brand’s good sense of humor, and the speed with which it appropriated the joke.

Months later, in April, when you might think the joke was already forgotten, the magic of Twitter happened. An official Twitter account raised competition between American brandswhere Xbox was losing to the brand of Bowling Snacks. And the magic happened the official Xbox account has promised to make the mini-fridge if it wins the poll. Quickly, the scores reversed and Xbox won by a single point. We would finally have an Xbox Series X-shaped mini-fridge.

Were so many memes worth it?

Well, here I am, the owner of an Xbox Series S, who sees that they are going to take out the fridge, and I say to myself, why not? Well, I still saved some money on the Microsoft machine by buying the S series, but without a doubt, buying the refrigerator in exchange was still not the best decision. As soon as we take it out of the box, we can see the resemblance to the original. The exterior is very simple, it has a few buttons to turn on the logo lights and the upper grille and a working USB port. Although the buttons seem a bit loose. The upper grille meanwhile, as seen in the photo, leaves something to be desired and the light isn’t exactly the same as the original Series X. Otherwise the resemblance is not bad, even if it is not as perfect as I thought.

Internally, the quality can be improved. The trays can be removed, but they do get stuck a bit, but that’s nothing horrible. The capacity is only 10 liters, but hey, that’s something that was known from the start. The main problem comes from the cooling power, which is neither adjustable nor fixed temperature. According to the specifications, it is able to cool a maximum of 20ºC. below the outside temperature. I already tell you that in Andalusia in summer it won’t do me any good.

Finally, we have the problem of noise. The refrigerator has 2 modes, a normal and an ECO. The ECO mode cools more slowly but in return makes a little less noise, even if it is not silent. Not only that, but in just a few days the noise seems to have increased, as if the fan was already dirty, or worse, loose. I’ll do some research and look at the warranty, but the noise is weird to say the least.

Overall an improvable product, which barely manages to fulfill its purpose. As is often the case with these products, the promotional videos are infinitely better. I’m not sure what the average price of a working mini fridge is on the market, but I can’t recommend this Xbox One. The finishes seem fragile and the resemblance to the original console is not perfect either. And forgive us a little for such an off-topic article, but from time to time it is necessary to get out of the maelstrom in which the world of video games locks us up.
