It didn’t appear on the usual “free stuff” radars, because when it was uploaded to the Steam platform, it never had a price. We refer to Marathon, one of the IPs created by Bungie at the beginning and of which they are currently making a new cross-platform delivery in the form of Extraction-style PvP multiplayer

. Since yesterday you can find it for free on Steam, to keep it forever and, precisely, this edition has not been made by Bungie.

It was the Aleph One team, a group of developers, who selflessly remastered the title, improving it considerably and whose work was rewarded with the possibility of being recognized on Steam and that Bungie itself gave his blessing.

Marathon is the first in a trilogy

Before Bungie dedicated itself to Halo, it released this Marathon, then Marathon 2: Durandal and finally Marathon Infinity. For now, You can only play this first opus, renamed “Marathon Classic”

and which takes advantage of the original data to offer a faithful experience, but slightly adapted to this era. The second and third installments will arrive later, hopefully also for free.

It’s a great way to enjoy the weekend, with an interesting retro shooter and experience what made Bungie the mega studio it is today.
