Thousands of employees have been laid off at Chinese company Perfect World, according to a report.
The next wave of layoffs is expected to cost thousands of jobs. According to the game developer, Perfect World is making extensive cuts. The offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu are said to be affected.
With the exception of eSports, all departments are said to be affected.
It is unclear what this means for games in development. According to the Chinese publication The Paper, which Game Developer’s report cites, One-Punch Man: World and Perfect New World are still being developed. Pandaily, on the other hand, reports that they have been canceled.
Perfect World is a developer and publisher of games such as Remnant: From the Ashes, Star Trek Online and, exclusively in China, Dota 2 and Counter-Strike 2.
Most recently, the company’s net profit fell by 64% compared to the previous year.
