Hey Xbox fans, it’s me again and today it’s time! With the holiday season in full swing, it’s great to have one final festive gift from Thunderful to the Xbox community and the gaming world. The gunk was a passionate project for the Thunderful family, so we can’t wait to see how players get on with our story. One of our main goals was to share the skills and charms for which we are known for SteamWorld Series into a new realm of 3D.

The gunk is a sci-fi exploration game set on a mysterious alien planet. You have to deal with a strange substance that you can soak up with Pumpkin, your trusted multi-purpose prosthetic arm. The behavior of this pulsating and threatening substance is unlike anything I’ve seen in a game before. Seeing the planet’s stunning alien ecosystem come to life before your very eyes as you clear the dirt is a core pillar of gameplay.
In The gunk, one of the things I love most is how the player interacts with the world and has a positive impact on the environment around you. I feel like it embodies, in a way, the Christmas cheer that we all want to spread this season. While many games have you hacking, slashing and shooting up the play area, The gunk is all about healing your environment so that it will help you and move you further in your quest.
And what a search it is! In addition to creating an incredible world for you to explore, it has been a priority for the development team to bring a more mature, character-centric story into. to deliver The gunk and i really think they delivered. Our characters are nothing without the people they embody and luckily we found Fiona Nova who did a fantastic job bringing Rani to life. The banter between Rani and her space miner colleague Becks gives a real sense of the relationship they have as business partners, but also as friends trying to find out what this crap really is together. I love how their story unfolds, a dilemma emerges, and they start to wonder what to do with this sticky discovery. Their journey also leads them to discover what happened to the ancient civilization that was left in ruins by the influence of the Gunks on this once beautiful planet.
