A new proposal of the Souls genre arrives in our hands.
When I first played a Souls type game back then, I couldn’t play more than 40 minutes at a time. At that time I died again and again and I decided that was enough torture. But over the years there has continued to be a mutual attraction, something in the worlds, in combat and in the possibility of feeling this enormous satisfaction after defeating a boss. Many of us Masocas return again and again to the arms of a genre that has managed to carve out a place for itself in the world of video games.
thymesiathe new proposal of this kind, takes us a fantasy kingdom called Hermes, a place that has fallen prey to all kinds of plagues and strange occurrences. This happens because many of its inhabitants have become addicted to using alchemy and the results of using this magic infected the earth, turn people into monsters and strange beasts
The story takes us to one of those worlds that we have already seen in other games of this type, of a strange plague that has eroded and corrupted a once beautiful land. Although sometimes it seems like we’re faced with a game we’ve seen and played before, here in particular the world-building and its characters shine. It helps that thymesia offers us something very interesting like the pieces of memory and the emergent narrativeensuring that it keeps us interested and intrigued, all with the goal of interpreting for ourselves what might have happened.
However, it is in the gameplay that lies the cornerstone of the title there thymesia never disappoints in this respect. It’s worth noting right off the bat that while this game seems faster than others and character stamina isn’t as big a factor, This is not a button mashing game. until finishing off the enemy in turn. We will have to treat each battle with care and patience.
As for the fights let’s start with a sword, but this can be improved and changed over time. As we said here, we don’t have a stamina meter, so it’s one less thing to worry about when attacking. Removing the typical normal attack we have, there’s also a defensive counterattack
As we continue to defeat our enemies and explore the world, we will have memories which can be traded to level up. The opportunity to improve skills in a skill tree It is also present, allowing us to make more powerful attacks or the possibility of doing a double dodge.
The graphic part of thymesia grids at a good level, with good character design and good world building. FPS are also stable (we played it in Xbox series X), something very important in this type of game. However, the color palette is not as varied as on other games, but when compared to that of the big titles we can forgive it, since we must remember that we are dealing here with a much more humble game. sound design It fulfills its mission, with several musical pieces full of epic and effects at a good level. Also note that the title is Subtitled and fully translated into Spanish.
Thymesia doesn’t bring anything new to the genre, but what it does, it does very well. Plague weapons are an extremely interesting addition, and overall Thymesia provides a very enjoyable gameplay experience. If you’re not a big fan of the Souls genre, you might have a hard time getting into it, but I’d still say it’s a little more accessible than most. Plus, it’s priced low, which can be a good bet for those who want to experience something further away from the spotlight.
