Hi everyone, I’m Liam Edwards, the creator and game director of Cursed to golf at Chuhai Labs. As our game is available today on the Microsoft Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, I thought I’d offer you my top tips to help you master the art of supernatural golf. The road to ascension is tough, but heed my guidance and you might just manage to conquer the fiendish course that awaits you at the Golf Purgatory.

Mastering the spin mechanic is crucial to conquering Golf Purgatory. The laws of physics work a little differently in the astral plane and Ball Spin has multiple benefits and can be used in a variety of scenarios. At a basic level, when your ball bounces, adding spin controls its direction. Chip the ball as it approaches the flagpole? He might end up in the hole if you direct his rebound with some top spin, saving you an extra shot. Bouncing off a wall littered with nearby obstacles? Backspin can be your best friend as it makes the ball fall straight down. Need to stop a ball but you’re out of lead weight or stop time cards? Heavy backspin on the first jump followed by gentle counterspin on the following short jumps can be accommodated Pen pixel-perfect ball placement. If you master the ball spin, your tactical options in any situation will be greatly expanded!
In a folder… er
Ace cards are fun, right? Yes! However, every once in a while you might want to keep some of the rarer ones. These portal cards don’t come around very often! Stop by the Eterni Tee on your run and place your strongest cards in the card binder. This card binder has magical powers even the rogue looping curse of Gulf Purgatory can’t beat. If you die and start a new run, any cards you saved in the folder are still there, so you can take them out when the time is right. A pro tip is to do a few dummy runs where you build a killer deck in the card binder ready for your real attempt at conquering the course. As you progress into the latter two biomes – the Caverns and Hell – you’ll need all the powerful ace cards you can get, trust me.
Who Needs Exercise?
The practice shot card is deceptively useful. Yes, of course, you can use it as a free shot to test whether your fancy shot idea works or not. More importantly, the practice shot doesn’t simply reverse everything you do before taking your “real” shot. The world state remains unchanged after a practice shot is taken. Therefore, it can be used to safely detonate TNT boxes or to hit Shot Idols located away from your chosen path to the hole. Using practice shots intelligently can be a great way to score extra shots or open up new shortcuts without sacrificing your precious shot counter.
No problems, only solutions or It’s very effective!
Elemental Balls are powerful ace cards with a ton of cool use cases. The fireball burns through those pesky brambles found throughout the caves and Hell. Being ensnared by brambles costs you an extra shot and sends you back to your last shooting location. So getting caught up in it is bad news. On the plus side, they often block or obscure clutch linkages. Smashing through this spiky shrub in a radiant glow is one of the most satisfying feelings one can have in Purgatory Gulf.
The Ice Ball is a cool (wink) little power-up. As you progress further and further through Golf Purgatory, you are greeted by more and more water hazards…great. Hit the water with an ice ball and what would once have been a lost ball becomes a cool platform from which to take your next shot. Water hazards can sometimes lead to great shortcuts or surround the flagpole on either side, so an ice ball is always a welcome safety blanket.
Last but not least is the Electro Ball. This thing sends shocking bolts of lightning at anything it flies past. Detonate TNT boxes, stun blackberry vines and smash Shot Idols without even touching them!
Unlimited Powerrrrrrrr!
Look, I love all the ace cards in there Cursed to golf, after all I designed them. However, there are some that are a bit more exotic than others. Rocket Ball, Drill Ball, Phase Ball, and Portals simply have more momentum than the mulligan. These powerful skills are difficult to master and easy to screw up. But we are in the Gulf of Purgatory, a place where high risk holds potential for high reward. Once unlocked, hone your skills with these cards in the practice range. When you use these ace cards effectively, you can reach areas that a regular golf swing just can’t reach, and if you’re really skilled, you can potentially skip entire sections of a hole.
A long way up
So these are my top five tips for making it out of Golf Purgatory and back into the land of the living. A course to play on… regular golf? It’s not going to be an easy task, but hang in there and maybe, just maybe, you can lift that pesky curse.
