Trinity Fusion review for Xbox Series
The video game market is constantly evolving. New titles come out every day and try to get good reviews so that more people know and play them. That’s why developers try to adapt to trends and create video games focused on the most successful genres. Currently, we are in an era where games of this genre continue to be released. like a soul (games that imitate the Dark Souls saga), metroidvania o roguelike. The latter has gained followers in recent years thanks to great works like Dead cells. And this video game is the one that (it seems) inspired the independent developer the most Angry mob games to create Fusion of the Trinity.
As I said, Trinity Fusion is a action roguelike which also incorporates metroidvania elements. After playing for a few hours and exploring everything the title offers, I’ll tell you my impressions below.
Multiversal Chaos
Let’s start with the story. Trinity Fusion explains how Primary, a very technologically advanced world, decides to create the multiverse. This, in turn, leads to the birth of three alternative realities: the Underworld, the Overworld and the Hyperworld. At first everything seems to be going well, but soon all three universes begin to collapse. Our duty will be to merge them into one and save what we can.
Me, me and my variation
To do this, we will put ourselves in the place of Mayaa scientist with alternate versions of herself in every reality. Altara, Kera and Naira These will be the characters we control in each world. Each of them offers unique abilities and movement options.
At a playable level, Trinity Fusion offers very smooth controlwhich results in a quick fight. Each character explores different scenarios and has access to their own weapons and abilities.. Altara, for example, belongs to the Underworld. This variant of Maya features an additional robotic arm to cast powerful magic.
For their part, Kera and Naira inhabit the Overworld and the Hyperworld respectively. The first is very skilled in using melee weapons while the second is an expert in fire arms. Throughout the game we will find new and better equipment to defeat increasingly powerful enemies.
¡Fuuuuuuuuuuussion!
But the particularity of Trinity Fusion is that, as its title indicates, we can merge any of the three characters with their variants during the game. In the first minutes of the game we will only have Altara available, but soon we will be able to choose Keira or Naira at the start of a race. Our initial choice when we start a new game will be based primarily on what weapons or special powers we start with.
Unlocking fusion will not only allow us to acquire weapons and powers from other characters, but also their particular movement abilities like double jump or wall jump. This, if we combine it with the fluidity of the game’s movement, results in the most satisfying gameplay.
Who dare win
Trinity Fusion follows a playable structure very similar to other titles in the genre such as Dead Cells. When we defeat a certain number of enemies, we increase our energy level and we find better quality weapons. Through the three worlds we will find different points where we will have amplifiers. These grant improvements in different aspects (health, defense, attack, critical…) and by obtaining 3 of the same type we will unlock an additional advantage. Choosing carefully between one or the other will be very important in building our build winner.
In addition to the amplifiers, we will have a wide variety of consumable items, such as healing or special attacks
The power of genetics
Dying in the Angry Mob Games game will be a constant. Fortunately, it won’t be too difficult to move forward. In every game we will get two types of parts that we will not lose when we are defeated. These will be used to purchase active improvements permanent or new advantage to make the next attempt easier. This will little by little create a fairly engaging loop and will motivate us to go a little further.
Triple analysis
As I already mentioned, Altara, Keira and Naira belong to three different worlds. Each of them is very different from each other both visually and in structure. He Underworld It is an inhospitable place filled with aggressive alien creatures. In the Superworld, machines have taken control and dominate humanity in a futuristic city. Finally, in the Hyperworldthe inhabitants evolved into a higher form known as “Ewer» and they will try to track us down in a huge factory.
The levels are very well designed and designed to take advantage of the movement of each protagonist. There are even little touches of metroidvania by including hidden paths or secret locations that can only be accessed with certain skills. It is also something that encourages replayability.
Failures in reality
The other side of the coin is found in its technical part. With this, I am not saying that Trinity Fusion is ugly, quite the contrary. Its color palette, lighting and detailed look of the sets are perfect. The problem is when the camera gets closer to the characters.
Oddly, at certain moments in the adventure, when our character interacts with an NPC, the camera offers us close-ups of the two of them “talking”. And I put that in quotes because, really, there are no facial animations that they give us to understand. Only text will appear in dialog boxes and voice. This failure seems silly, but it is quite shocking if we take into account the rest of the animations of the enemies or the protagonists in combat. Furthermore, The character modeling up close looks quite rough..
Respect to The soundtrack is also nothing remarkable.. It’s simply there and accompanies in the background while we explore or fight enemies and bosses.
Eventually
You could say that Trinity Fusion is a remarkable game. Its movement and the way the controls respond to combat make it a very pleasant title. In addition, its progression system is one of those that makes you repeat the phrase “one more and I leave it“every time you die. The problem is that all of this has been seen before. Although Angry Mob Games’ work strives to be original by adding the fusion mechanic, fails to stand out among the tide of roguelikes that it currently exists. However, if you’re as into the genre as the person writing this, Trinity Fusion is a good buy.
