due, predecessor, success, turnbased

Due to the success of its predecessor, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth also remains true to the new concept with turn-based battles.

With Yakuza: Like a Dragon, released in 2020, developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio took a new approach. In addition to a new protagonist, the combat system has also been completely overhauled with turn-based combat.

The risk paid off and Yakuza: Like a Dragon convinced both critics and gamers and became a commercial success with a total of 1.8 million sales.

In a conversation with The player Series Lead Producer Hiroyuki Sakamoto revealed that the success encouraged the team to stay true to the new concept for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth:

“If Like a Dragon 7 hadn’t been so well received, this game probably wouldn’t exist. The success of its predecessor enabled us to develop this game.”

“We really try to focus on the balance between good gameplay and a good story. We don’t just want to have good gameplay and a mediocre story or vice versa. We always try to keep that balance and make sure we offer the full package in terms of quality.”

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will be released on January 26, 2024 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC.
