Twelve tips and tricks to help you become the best dinosaur fossil hunter

Dinosaur, Fossil, Hunter, tips, tricks, twelve

Welcome to the world of fossils! Dinosaur Fossil Huntersyou can experience the work of a paleontologist first hand. We developed this game out of our passion for dinosaurs. We spent countless hours gathering information to turn it into a unique, relaxing paleontology simulator. Here are a few introductory tips to enrich your adventure:

TIP 1 – Mark the map and keep your tablet open while walking around

This makes things a lot easier, because one of your main tasks in the game will be to search for, dig up, secure and transport fossils. If you press the “Open tablet” button twice, you can move around with the map open. Thanks to the ability to set target markers, you won’t miss any excavation site or special finds and exploring the area will be pure pleasure.

TIP 2 – Choose the weather and time of day you prefer!

When you open the location selection tab on your tablet, you can not only choose the destination, but also whether you want to work in sunlight or moonlight. Be sure to check the weather forecast for the coming days and choose a climate that suits your mood.

TIP 3 – Read the pop-up screens and notification windows carefully

Of course, you can always go back there, but we recommend that you do so gradually. You will find a lot of useful information there about handling fossils and the equipment available.

TIP 4 – Don’t forget the petrol!

Cars run on fuel (who knew?), and so do some of the equipment useful at dig sites, so make sure you have a gas can filled with petrol. Each HUB has a large fuel tank where you can refill fuel. If you run out of gas along the way, look around the map for locations full of gas cans, marked with a green gas pump icon. In later stages of the game, you can order a drone with a mini-can to a location of your choosing. Once you’ve set up your dig site, you can find additional tools like generators or water pumps. In certain locations and weather conditions, these are essential, so really remember to keep your gas can full!

TIP 5 – Every car has different characteristics

These are vehicles for special tasks – each with unique transport and off-road capabilities. It’s worth getting to know them all and choosing the best one for your needs. Keep this in mind when choosing locations and planning your work. If you forget to choose the right car, you can easily switch vehicles at the HUB via the laptop. If you get stuck in the mud, remember to turn on the 4×4 drive and differential lock to get out!

TIP 6 – Always check the markings on the map and in your surroundings

You can find special fossils and collectibles in the area. We have it on good authority that if you pay close attention to the map as you explore, you can find them all (even rare plants or dinosaur eggs!). If you come across a special, unique plant, take a photo of it so you can decorate your display with it.

TIP 7 – Museum prestige and the skill tree are not the same

increase Museum prestige by creating your own exhibits, among other things. It’s not just about putting bones on a pedestal. You can choose everything from the plants and stones that decorate your exhibits to the floor that forms the base of your dioramas. And all of this adds to the prestige of your museum.

The higher the reputation of your museum, the more decorations, rooms and, most importantly, staff will be available to you. Staff can assist you with everyday tasks, such as sending drones with supplies or fuel to your excavation sites, cleaning bones or significantly reducing your travel time between the HUB and your excavation sites.

You can also win Skill Points for work done personally. These points improve skills like digging, chiseling, and cleaning fossils. The skill tree allows you to perform manual tasks faster and even stay underwater longer during underwater excavations (oops, spoiler!).

TIP 8 – Always perform an inspection to assemble skeletons faster

By identifying the bones, you can select unique sets to clean and assemble, helping you complete the skeletons you want more quickly.

Pro tip: Always check the Knowledge tab on your tablet. There you can see how many bones you have collected for each skeleton, where they are located, the progress of your skeletons, if a certain set of bones has been purified, and more.

TIP 9 – Do everything your way – select, rotate, rearrange and decorate

There is no one-size-fits-all way to complete the game and no universal recipe for your museum. You can design it yourself. Want to mix dinosaur species from different areas and eras in one exhibition? Go ahead. Dreaming of tools in bright fuchsia? Don’t worry. If you want a beautifully designed museum but are afraid something will go wrong, don’t worry – you can always adjust the placement of objects, remove them, or even delete the entire exhibition if necessary. It’s your museum and you’re in control.

There are numerous options available for customizing the museum – from the floor plan to the walls and floor coverings. Each decoration can be rotated and some can also be resized.

Remember to choose the poses for your dinosaurs that will give expression to your exhibit. Don’t forget the option to add water to your exhibit, which you can also customize to your liking – you can choose the depth, color, shape and type of bottom. Check out the control notes and tutorials to explore all the customization options.

TIP 10 – There are usually several ways to reach your goal

Some trails may be blocked by trees, boulders, or deep layers of mud. But don’t worry – these obstacles can be cleared (well, except for the mud, but that’s what your 4WD is for if you remember to turn it on). Sometimes you can find alternative routes that help you get around obstacles. And remember, you can always avoid the designated trails!

TIP 11 – Make sure you have packed your excavation equipment

You can only pick up your equipment at the HUB. To avoid having to turn back halfway (or worse, when you’re already there), we added a reminder before each departure from the HUB. Let’s be honest: our internal testing showed that without this reminder, we often made a U-turn.

TIP 12 – Make your life easier!

As you progress through the game, you can unlock various automation features. Call in drones to bring you empty crates or transport the excavated fossils to a museum for you. Use fast travel to quickly move between HUBs and excavations. Hire museum workers to clean the bones for you or call in a refueling drone if you get stuck in the middle of nowhere.
