We are living in strange and quite difficult times. After a pandemic that we are still trying to stop, we have to suffer a military invasion of Ukraine by Russia. It’s quite complicated to talk about this situation, because it is an armed attack that obviously had to be avoided at all costs.
This conflict affects virtually every industry you can think of, even video games as we told you here. Now we have to give you another piece of news that goes in the same direction, namely that the Ukrainian government is asking to temporarily expel all Russian and Belarusian players and teams from esports.
Ukraine calls for temporary esports bans
Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister (also Minister of Digital Transformation), Mykhailo Fedorov, posted a document on his Twitter account mentioning Xbox and PlayStation where this expulsion from esports is requested. This request may seem a bit disproportionate, but we can already see how Russian teams from other sports are expelled from European competitions. Of course, most sports federations allow Russian athletes to continue to compete, but as long as they do so without representing Russia.
You are certainly aware of what is happening in Ukraine at the moment. Russia declares war not on Ukraine but on the whole civilized world. If you support human values, you should live the Russian market! pic.twitter.com/tnQr13BsSv
