This entry is written with a lot of love and love for this wonderful hobby. Keep in mind that this is an expensive type of entertainment and is not accessible to everyone, so it is understandable that there are different types of players.
It is interesting to consider that, despite the passion and taste for video games, we can have some clarity about the players and their ranking. But what is the point of ranking players? Obviously there are two possible answers to this question and we will see them later.
A question that leads us to more
What is a video game?
Many of us know about video games, but there are people in our environment who don’t know what they are. Video games are a form of expression and entertainment that presents us with a challenge that we must overcome or learn from. All this is seasoned with a series of codes, commands, functions and other languages and techniques, which are recreated using a computer.

However, if you ask me, I see video games holistically, because it’s not just about shooting, defeating, or facing hordes of enemies. A video game has an essence that captivates us and connects us, sometimes even magical, often making us forget that it is a form of entertainment and that some of them hide lessons.
Why are video games not accessible?
As we have seen previously, this way of having fun is not at all accessible to just anyone’s pocket. To play, you need a system, a base to run a title, whether it’s a phone, a tablet, a console or a PC, and each of these options costs money.
Additionally, we also have to pay for a game, which makes it unattractive to people who are not willing to pay for them. Additionally, children and young people rely on their parents for access, leaving a more adult audience who can purchase them (obviously because in many cases they are workers).
In this way, a first barrier is created and another signal to identify certain types of players, those more casual who only play on alternatives that are within their reach. On the contrary, we have older gamers who can purchase and play the launch titles and who are heavy consumers of them.
At what age do you start enjoying video games?
From my personal experience, video games have no starting or ending age to enjoy them. I remember starting between 4 and 6 years old, and I’m talking to you about more than forty years ago, so we are dealing with a taboo subject: there is no specific age for playing.
However, here we get another detail that brings us to the reason for this entry. It is not the same thing as a 4 year old playing something educational than a 15 or 20 year old playing Doom Eternal. Age is a factor, but not a determining factor in playing.
Types of players
Now that we’ve seen some brief details about this interesting world, we can talk a little about player types. Something has been revealed throughout this article, but now we can spell out something more tangible and real below.
Novice or beginner players: These are the ones who are taking their first steps in video games. I’m not talking about one or a group of them, but about this form of entertainment. Those who had never felt that feeling of sitting and enjoying an experience.
It’s him first step to start in this amazing world. We’ve all been there and it’s something we can’t deny. This type of gamer can also be mentioned as those who start with a game and don’t know much about it, but more than a type of gamer, my perception is that it is the type of experience that one has with a game.
Casual players: So-called occasional gamers are those who love video games, but who do not invest the resources and time to devote themselves to them on a recurring basis. In this area, it’s easy to identify people who play through their phone or tablet just to get distracted for a moment, without fully engaging in an experience.
However, make no mistake, they are not exclusive to a phone or devices of that type. Let’s remember when Nintendo ruled with its Wii console, a time when those who didn’t play games made the leap to this form of entertainment and a new trade deficit has opened which until now was unknown.
Intermediate players: I include myself in this range, because we really enjoy the stocks and we like to invest in them moderately, as well as spend a few hours sitting down enjoying this experience. There is, however, one detail that slows down this type of reader: new products and their cost, in addition to not having enough time.
The responsibilities of adult life lead us to become this type of actor. Obviously we can’t spend all our time on the controller or sit for long sessions over several days, that only happened when we were younger. At this stage, we are faced with a balanceeven if many times we play less than we want.
Our passion and essence are latent, this makes us more selective in games due to the limitations of the intermediate player. These players have in-depth knowledge of the genres and, even if they haven’t mastered them, they can be as good as a seasoned veteran.
Advanced or veteran players: We reach the maximum exponent of player types, those who spend long gaming sessions and time is not an issue. Moreover, the economic factor does not constitute a limitation for these players, since they acquire games and have large collections of them.
Due to their in-depth knowledge, they play and try numerous experiences of all genres and have a good knowledge of video games, to the point of not being afraid of any genre. Challenge is its main driving force it keeps them going. We all want to be this type of player; However, being able to profit is already a gain for each of the types we have seen.
What is the point of knowing the types of video gamers that exist?
We have one final question: What is the point of knowing this type of players? Believe it or not, in my opinion there are two main reasons which we will look at below. Both are pretty obvious, but maybe you didn’t see them that way. They make you understand that even if you know which category you belong to, it is not good to categorize anyone.
Commercial: Big companies pull their strings in favor of what’s trendy, for example Fortnite. They strive to provide a game that appeals to everyone, is accessible and fun, and hides microtransactions to entice the player to purchase them. Casual or intermediate players may be tempted. At the end, It is a business model and companies must know their stakeholders to know how and what to sell.
Finally, I feel happy to be part of this world and I do not appreciate injustices towards others, nor do I share them. Therefore, no matter what type of player you are, the end goal is to have a good time, share and enjoy this beautiful pastime.
