Toylogic and PLAION’s new bet is a MOBA in which science and magic intertwine.
Arrived on PC at the beginning of the year, the developers of Toylogic and PLAION they bring us their latest bet on consoles Xbox Series: Warrior. It’s been a long time since I dived into a MOBA with a free-to-play mode (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena OR Online Battle Arena Multiplayer Video Game), but it seemed interesting enough to warrant a return to the genre. After playing it, I can say that Warlander is definitely a fun game to play alone or with friends.
Magic and science go hand in hand in the world of Warlander
For those who don’t know, Warlander is a MOBA in which magic and science they seem to have mingled with a medieval aesthetic. You can play with three different classes: warriors, monks and magicians. Each of these classes have their own weapon types, special abilities, and tactics that favor various situations that will arise as you fight your way through the battlefield.
Like most MOBAs, Warlander asks you to capture spawn points and destroy fortifications to fight your way to the enemy core. From these main parts of the MOBA experience, Warlander does a great job of making gameplay smooth and seamless..
character classes
The classes (although apparently limited) they offer just enough flavor for players to enjoy a bit of variety in their gameplay. The warrior is essentially the game tank, with good health and abilities that favor melee encounters. The Monk Class is the closest thing to a support class What Warlander has. He is essentially a mid-range attacker, as many melee abilities are missing when the enemy is at close range.
The Sorcerer classdefinitely my favorite, is the long-range course which focuses on skills that drain health or distract enemies. Mages are useful to other classes in defeating enemies. If you have a strike force made up of all three classes, there will be very little that can easily stop us.
Attack and defense formations
When it comes to maps, there doesn’t seem to be any variety, as the game decides which side of the map you spawn on. Although this is something that could easily be changed later, gets a bit boring after playing a few games. Fortunately, the strategy selection of the game which is done just before the game makes it possible to change from time to time the configurations of the same card. However, this system is not always a sure guarantee. Of the three strategies, only two were used in the matches I played: balanced and aggressive
Defensive formation was never adopted in any of my games, so it would be interesting to see how that plays out. Another thing that would appear randomly and really change the dynamics of the map are the various events that happened. The two I saw were one that spawned a tornado that took a designated path and a robot that could pretty much shoot any enemy that got in range. The robot was by far my favorite part of the game, although it was somewhat limited by its size relative to the map.
While I haven’t seen too many glitches or failures in my playthrough of Warlander, there is one thing that stands out that has to do with the party you bring with you. When entering each match, the group of characters you create requires one that has no special title associated with it. Besides, you cannot choose other characters outside of this base group until you have earned a certain number of points.
Even after that, each upgraded character has a cooldown, so you’re stuck using different characters. At first, I understand that this can be a way to balance the game and allow people to try out all the classes. However, I couldn’t find any improvements that would make a significant difference for someone just starting out with the base kit. These game limitations seem rather fruitless and serve no practical purpose.
conclusion
Overall, I enjoyed my experience with Warlander, but I definitely see some issues with it that hampered my overall experience. These few poorly designed elements made my experience quite confusing. Despite all these problems, the game is free, so it is worth taking a risk to try new games.
