Winter Terrieris one of the independent versions that we were able to try during the recent Gamescom thanks to Xbox Europe. This title developed by Pine Creek Gameswants to take players into a winter tale. In this sense, we will take control of an inhabitant of the mysterious town of Burrow. An isolated place completely covered in snow. The game invites us to explore every corner of this city as well as meet its characters in order to solve the mystery that lies there.
The first thing that stands out is the unique visual style of Winter Terrier. In order to give the game this fable-like aesthetic, A soft, cool color palette was chosen, accompanied by fantastical illustrations similar to those in a children’s book. In this way, scenarios full of details are developed, bringing the winter atmosphere to life, thanks to visual effects such as the snow falling gently and the soft lighting of lamps and bonfires that give a feeling of warmth in the midst of the cold.
Cold as a key element
On the other hand, during the demo we were able to see some details about its gameplay. In itself, Winter Terrierfollows the essence of “cozy” games, where we will have to obtain resources to, in this case, improve our house. All this at a fairly slow pace. Nevertheless, It has a very interesting survival system which is mainly based on the notion of cold. This element is one of the main playable assets of this title. We will have to be very attentive to the cold that our protagonist suffers because it can lead to death. If we die, all our objects will remain in the place where we died, so we will have to go looking for them.
To be able to face the cold, We have a fairly simple crafting system that will allow us to improve our equipment little by little. On top of that, the game promises to have gameplay full of puzzles and riddles that we will have to solve. That said, the small demo that we were able to play left us with a good taste in our mouths and we are curious to continue exploring its world. At Xbox Area, we are eager to get our hands on the full adventure as soon as it is available.
