The Last Oricru is the new action RPG from the Czech studio golden knights. The game places a strong emphasis on decision-making, which will mark the development of the story. In addition, the combat system is pure Souls mixed with typical RPG elements. One thing to note is that the game supports local and online co-opbroadening the experience and offering new ways to overcome situations.
The Last Oricru will be released on PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5 on October 13. On this occasion, we had access to the closed beta on pc. As beta, does not represent the final quality of the gamekeep that in mind.
In The Last Oricru, all decisions matter
If the game boasts about anything, it’s that all decisions have consequences, and that’s how it is.. Sometimes we will have to decide whether to betray X or follow Y, other times just by talking to someone we will already make a small decision. In addition, some optional dialogues can end up taking us to a secondary mission, which once completed, can also have consequences. If we put together one small decision after another, it will end up in something bigger. This is where factions and our relationship with them come into play..
We will make decisions that will increase our relationship with one faction but annoy another. There is no middle ground. Getting along with each has its pros and cons.
We will be able to gain affinity little by little by completing missions, killing members of opposing factions and, obviously, making important decisions when the story requires it.. During the adventure, we will be able to change jackets (sides) several times, so don’t worry if you regret something. Of course, we won’t be able to change sides as many times as we want, the opportunities are limited.
the story is a mystery
The story of the game has something calling you to discover, because yes, we wake up in a medieval fantasy world, but it’s not our world. We came here from a distant place after being attacked in an unknown location. We even have a technology far superior to what we will see in the adventure, we have a belt that allows us to live again and makes us practically immortal. The most curious thing is that there are characters who seem to know where we come from and who are aware of our ability to resurrect.
Every once in a while we have visions of what appears to be our own ship’s AI, which tells us what to look for in the world. Let us also emphasize that we are not alone, there are more humans like us who have suffered the same fate than us, who will make their own decisions and fight for what they think is right.
Gameplay of The Last Oricru
Regarding the combat system and the gameplay in general of the game, it’s pure Souls. We have a stamina bar that empties with each attack, each dodge and when sprinting. We also have a parade
On the map there are scattered some nodes in our ship that act as bonfiresif we use them, the enemies reappear. If we die, we have to get our essences (the souls of this game)which we use to level up by increasing strength, agility, carrying capacity and other stats.
We will also find weapons and armor that we can equip if we meet the required statistics. Some weapons will come with a magical secondary attack, such as imbued with fire.
Movement, at least with control, feels a little rough. For example, to sprint you have to hold down the joystick while you move and it’s a bit uncomfortable. In attack, there are times when he also feels a little dull, especially when he finishes an attack and moves around, he seems to have a little trouble looking where you really want to look. Control with keyboard and mouse feels smoother and faster compared to gamepad.
The Last Oricru, better in cooperative
The game has local and online co-op. The second player will be a hologram, with their own gear and level, although they cannot level past the main player. Second player can join at any time during the gameyou can also leave whenever you want.
Story doesn’t prevent switching between solo and co-op at any timeif it is true that at the beginning there is a part which is for only one player, but it is very short. Although being 2 does not imply that the game is easier, but rather it gives it another approach. The difficulty scales and there will be other ways to do certain things.
The technical part
The technical section is something that can be improved for the launch. Frame drops are present and we had several hiccups, one of which required us to restart the game since it didn’t skip a cutscene to continue. Graphically the title is not bad and the design is very interesting, almost nostalgic.or somehow remind others there are classic titles like Oversight.
On PC we can also touch several interesting graphic options and the game is compatible with ultrawide, although there are times when it cuts something out of the scenes.
The soundtrack is a bit reminiscent of the first Assassin’s Creedmixing medieval themes with other more “electronic”, to put it in a way, very well done.
The Last Oricru Closed Beta Final Notice
The Last Oricru it has its issues, but it’s a great fun game, especially in co-opI would even say that it is designed to be played like that. The story is also very interesting and the decision making makes you feel that what you are doing really matters.which has a value, and that is something very positive.
This is a game that has huge potential and will hopefully polish what it needs to polish for its release on October 13.
