If you’ve never been drawn to the Warhammer 40,000 universe, it may be time for you to catch up. Well, relatively, because in reality, explaining each of the factions, what the Warp is or many of the reasons for this infinite war in which your world lives, is complicated to explain. But if there is a figure or character capable of identifying the saga in an almost global way, it is the human Space Marines. Also called Ultramarines, they have inspired a multitude of characters, warriors and heroes over the last decades and yes, our beloved Master Chief is perhaps also included.
And I can’t help but tell you about Warhammer 40,000 and the relevance of its futuristic fantasy in which it seems that everything has its place, because I firmly believe that Space Marine 2 is the game that will best represent its universe. There are many titles in the franchise, but thanks to today’s technology and the excellent artistic work of Saber Interactive, this is the definitive game that makes us feel in this war of humanity, especially because everything seems immense.
From the characters, the settings, the overwhelming number of enemies on screen, the grandeur of the conversations… in Warhammer 40K, if you have a slot machine to appear, you probably have an epic story to back it up. It will probably be hard for me to get off this sort of winged demonic unicorn I rode after playing its PC version, a full mission from the Space Marine 2 campaign and two of its co-op missions from Operations modebecause I found it moving, funny and with moving action.
Although my PC requirements do not meet the recommended ones, which you can see here , I was able to play quite comfortably at 1080p and 60fps with medium-high graphics options, which appeared by default, which is excellent news, since the optimization of the title is excellent. Continuing on a purely technical level, the driving sensations are also very good, with absolute and precise control of our character, without any problem, thus dismissing a significant part of the concerns of many users.
Also, although the attached gameplay has English subtitles, the version we tested was in a very perfect, high-pitched Spanish dubbing, which gives a higher quality point to the whole thing.
It smells like Gears, but it’s agile like a Hack and Slash
We can’t comment much on the fragment of the campaign that we played, but we can confirm that this second part is after the first Space Marine, that Captain Titus will once again be the protagonist, but we will leave you with some uncertainty, because if you have finished From the first part, you will know that there are some questions to be resolved. Of course, the attitude of the Empire has not changed much towards the heretics of the Emperor’s creed, so you can have an idea of what happened.

What we can tell you is that it is absolutely spectacular, graphically, that what we had seen in the trailers and that you can see below in our gameplay is totally real. It all looks huge, and the number of Tyranids, the equivalent of the Zerg in Warhammer 40K, is worth noting. It is difficult for me to describe a game that puts so much on the screen with this ordered chaos of enemies, allies and enormous scenery. But I must also say that, since I have the first Space Marine relatively recently, this one is very similar to the previous one. In other words, if you are looking for this spectacular action experience without differentiating RPG elements or the pretension of being GOTY, welcome. Saber Interactive created a perfect AAA, knowing that it did not have the budget for it. It simply knew how to push the right buttons.
The combat is great, but it can get repetitive after a while.
The core of this action design is combat and how it works. The weapons feel heavy, damaging and powerful, as they should be in an Ultramarine.only the classic Bolter and its explosive ammunition are enough for us, but the magic begins with the use of the Chain Sword or one of the melee weapons. We will have the ability to do combos, executions and even critical hits with the pistol, but also to block, parry and dodgegenerating a very fun combat dynamic, which in our case, did not tire us at all, in fact, we asked for more.
But how it plans to keep players with the already announced online levels or climb in Operations mode, both alone and in cooperation, gives us uncertainty. Probably, we have not seen everything, and precisely In Operations mode we can choose between 6 different soldier subclasses, all with their own special moveswhich makes them complementary: Strategist, Assault, Vanguard, Bastion, Sniper and Heavy.
We will access these operations through the HUB in the form of a base, where we can go to the Armory, select a mission and take off in our ship to the next phase that we choose. This space can be shared by the players with whom we are in cooperation, being almost like a kind of private lobby. Each of these missions, of which we have counted 6, but there are probably more, will last approximately between 30 and 40 minutes, something quite acceptable, especially since the possibility of getting killed and having to start over will be there.
An important detail is that They recommend finishing the campaign early, as these Operations missions complete it.. In fact, during the campaign itself, it happens that another of the squads helps us destroy an essential part, which will allow Titus and his companions to continue their mission. A brutal idea to keep players hooked on Operations once the campaign is over.
And at this moment we take the opportunity to comment marine life and the armor systembecause it is precisely in Operations mode that we have sweated the most to complete them, with very tough waves even at the lowest level. The upper bar is life and this can only be recovered with stimulants, but the armor, which is represented by the three lower bars, will recover by itself if we do not receive damage for a long time … or with an execution, which will instantly fill us with a Complete. Precisely, these executions will emit scattered damage once finished, eliminating other smaller enemies around us.
Because to encourage us, it will be necessary the ability to modify our Navy with a wide selection of items, completely free and unlockablesince we do not know at the moment that the game will include microtransactions, beyond the unannounced future content. As we advance in level, we will obtain the possibility of improving the different classes with skills independently, so we will benefit from focusing on one of them, to unlock it as quickly as possible.
In short, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 delivers on everything it promised in its spectacular trailers, and in my opinion, even more. It’s a mix of the Gears of War experience with a significant Hack’n’slash point, which feels excellent in terms of controls and is reflected even better in its overwhelming visual aspect.. I am absolutely sure that fans of this type of games, whether they know the franchise or not, will feel absolutely satisfied with the work of Saber Interactive. For me, of course, they have undoubtedly placed it among the best of the year. What do you think?
