Find out more details about a young cyclist’s adventure in Wheel World.
Developer Messhof (Nidhogg) and publisher Annapurna Interactive announced last week as part of the Xbox Partner Preview Showcase that their scenic cycling adventure Wheel World, formerly known as Ghost Bike, will be coming to Xbox Series X & S in early 2025 as part of Game Pass, PlayStation 5 and PC will appear.
We have more details about the game for you today.
To celebrate the name change and the news, Messhof debuted a bright and cheerful trailer for the game during the showcases, featuring the new original song “I Want It All” by artist Joon from electronic music label Italians Do It Better.
Mark Essen and Kristy Norindr from Messhof gave an update on the game’s re-release in a Steam news release.
“This game represents several firsts for our studio. It’s of course our first 3D game, which also makes it our first game developed with Unity. It’s our first game to use a physics library, our first game developed with a large team and therefore our first game funded by a publisher, and our first game with a real story (even with characters and dialogue boxes !).”
“Wheel World’s gameplay has gone through a number of iterations in terms of gameplay and structure, and the story has also had to adapt over time. When we wanted to announce the project last year, the name Ghost Bike came to mind based on the story. It was a game about dying on a bike after being hit by a car and ending up in a bike Valhalla.”
“While it wasn’t directly based on the ghost bikes (those white bikes that commemorate cyclists killed by drivers), there was enough overlap to warrant the name, and the associations were positive in both directions. But as the gameplay (to be more fun) and the story (especially the tone) changed, it became less and less suitable.”
