The point-and-click adventure Whirlight: No Time To Trip travels through time against an Italian backdrop.
Developer imaginarylab, an Italian studio dedicated to reimagining classic graphic adventures through the lens of modern technology, has announced Whirlight: No Time To Trip, a laugh-out-loud time travel point-and-click adventure that retains traditional genre hallmarks an eclectic mix of playing styles.
The nostalgic twentieth-century adventure is scheduled to release on PC via Steam in 2025, with Nintendo Switch, PS4/PS5 and Xbox platforms to follow.
Whirlight: No Time To Trip pays homage to point-and-click greats like Sam & Max, Day of the Tentacle and Monkey Island, while reinvigorating the genre with a look all its own.
Characters and backgrounds were first created in 3D and then rendered in 2D for a high visual quality that stands out from other modern versions. The result is an immersive and unpredictable spectacle suitable for both experienced players and newcomers.
Whirlight: No Time to Trip begins in the 1960s with an eccentric but brilliant inventor named Hector. After a dream leads him to assemble a device from components scattered around his Venice-inspired hometown of Verice Bay, Hector is thrown back in time to the 1990s. There he meets a determined artist named Margaret. Together the two embark on a journey through space and time to save the planet from a global catastrophe.
“Whirlight will distinguish itself in the point-and-click adventure genre by offering both a nostalgic nod to the past and a fresh, modern gaming experience,” said Ciro Camera, co-founder of imaginarylab. “We are incredibly excited to build on what we learned from Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town and offer players unprecedented depth and variety, be it in the form of graphics, gameplay, narrative and more . Long-time point-and-click fans won’t be disappointed.”
