During the new monster killing RPG adventure Wild Hearts offers you an extensive arsenal of weapons to play with, its most unique system is based on karakuri, a collectible resource that allows you to craft tools and structures to use both in combat and around the world. Here’s how to get started with Karakuri, what it can do, and how to use the abilities to creatively defeat monsters.
Karakuri is an ancient technology coursing through the land of Azuma, and you have the power to harness it. Karakuri can be used to build structures, coordinate attacks on vicious prey, and unlock more abilities and tools to help you defeat the mightiest of beasts. It will appear frequently throughout your journey as a glowing green substance that is detected with your hunter vision. You must stop and collect the resources to keep crafting objects that will help you defeat the kemono, the monsters that are overrunning the land. This ancient power also flows through your AI companion, who can aid you in battle and collect threads of Karakuri from around you.
You won’t be able to take on the treacherous battles ahead without understanding the basics, so we’ve put together a guide that will help you get started hunting.
With Karakuri through the wilderness
Azuma is a vast, intimidating landscape, and the kemono that lurk within it travel great distances. To make your hunts easier, Basic Karakuri can be used to craft items that allow you to get around, like crates that allow you to climb to higher points and springs that allow you to jump over broken bridges and cavernous chasms.
As you progress, Karakuri will unlock different ways to navigate and explore the world. Karakuri abilities give you the ability to craft Hunting Towers that reveal Kemono hiding in the immediate area. The Flying Vine is a contraption that creates a zipline that allows you to travel great distances on a zipline, perfect for scaling a cliff or crossing a river.
Later, use the Karakuri skill tree to unlock even more useful upgrades, like the Wind Vortex to glide high in the sky, the Glider to get an overview of an area, or the Launcher to launch smaller Karakuri Objects can be fired ( our selves) into the distance.
Power up your camp
Karakuri can be used to build camps in the wilds of Azuma. If you discover a dragon pit, you can awaken it and turn the area into a camp. These locations serve as permanent resting points in the open world to prepare for a nearby battle, and as a handy fast travel point in case you need to return another time.
Here Karakuri can be used to boost up some useful resources. A hunter’s tent gives you some much-needed rest before or after a fight, while a campfire helps you plan your next hunt and wait for other adventurers to join you if necessary.
When you need a brand new weapon or armor upgrade, you can build the Field Forge and instantly craft whatever you need for the battle ahead if you have the right materials, be it poison-resistant gauntlets or a giant hammer. The drying rack can be used for food, and the ingredient chest allows you to store resources gathered along the way.
Lead Karakuri into battle
Your Karakuri powers can also be used to gain an advantage over Azuma’s colossal Kemono. Quickly place six crates together to form a bulwark that can act as a wall between you and your enemy or block an attacking Kemono from attacking, allowing it to take damage.
Use Fusion Karakuri to awaken the Pounder, a powerful hammerhead capable of unleashing a devastating blow on any Kemono and destroying any offensive objects it spawns during an attack. Fusion Karakuri can also unlock the Elemental Lantern, a device that can protect you from the effects of deadly elemental hits your enemy might use to strike.
Her Flying Vine can also be used offensively with the Impaler upgrade. Instead of jumping to solid ground, fire the contraption directly into a kemono to injure it as it pulls in. All of your basic karakuri can also be crafted in combat, so make sure you make the most of the mysterious technology in each scenario. Over time, all of your Karakuri resources can be charged to take on bigger, more powerful, and more rewarding Kemonos found throughout Azuma.
With that, you should be ready to embark on your own epic hunts and get to know your prey, and when Wild Hearts Coming to Xbox Series X|S on February 17th.
