Before you’re ready to tame a world gone wild, you should take some time to understand both the often brutal prey you hunt and the ancient technology that gives you an advantage over them Wild Hearts starts on February 17, 2023.
The game takes place in a feudal fantasy Japan, more precisely in a country called Azuma. It was once harmonious with the beautiful landscape that surrounds it, but now it’s a wonderfully dangerous place. Local maps show the country divided into four main areas; the scenic meadows of Blossom Trail, the sandy beaches of Spirit Isle, the clouds rising over Harvest Canyon and the searing winds of Frozen Fort.
The people of Azuma are now threatened by giant beasts they call Kemono. Driven by desperation, they wield the power of primordial nature at its most destructive – and they use that power to shape the environment around them. Misfortune follows them, and people face them helplessly for a long time.
As the Kemono expand their territory to survive, the city of Minato—a small port village—is slowly dying and being eroded by nature. There you will find like-minded people who will help you in your journey to bring peace back to Azuma.
When the Deathstalker wolf howls, people tremble with fear – but all you can feel is the thrill of the hunt ahead. For you have a unique gift, a powerful ancient technology known as karakuri. This technology is ancient, and although it was once known to many and used to protect humanity, it is all but lost today. Karakuri can be used as both a weapon and a tool to meet your needs at any time. There are many forms this technology can take, from a simple torch that lights your way to a celestial cannon that gives you enough massive firepower to stagger your prey. You can use this technology to scout your prey, build strong defenses against the Kemono attacks, redesign your hunting grounds to give you the upper hand, and much more.
Of course, there is more to a hunter’s life than chasing prey. You must gather resources to build or upgrade your armor and weapons. Karakuri is an abundant if elusive resource like fish that can be difficult to catch. It converts into a handy paddle shovel for quick catching and storage.
There’s plenty to explore in Azuma, whether you’re searching for resources or actively hunting, and the Karakuri can help make your journey that little bit quicker and easier. Rely on the flying vine, reel or glider to get you from one place to another quickly. The flying vine (similar to a zipline) or glider can also give you the height you need to better understand almost any location, easily catch up with your fellow hunters, or create a better angle of attack while battling a kemono.
Any good hunter knows that preparation is key, and the karakuri can even help you train between hunts to hone your skills. Build the Training Bear to train and test new weapons or hone your skills with your current ones. One should not be overly prepared when it comes to hunting beasts as dangerous and powerful as the kemono.
