Dubbed “Grand Theft Cthulhu,” horror-survival game Dead Static Drive will launch in the third quarter for Xbox and Xbox Game Pass.
Independent video game studio Reuben Games has received funding from VicScreen’s Victorian Production Fund to support the development of its upcoming title Dead Static Drive.
Support from the Victorian Production Fund will enable the studio to move forward towards the long-awaited release of Dead Static Drive, now confirmed for Q3 2024 thanks to VicScreen.
Creative Director Mike Blackney said: “I’m thrilled to have this support to complete the game and make it everything we dreamed of. I hope people enjoy playing Dead Static Drive as much as we made it, and I can’t wait to share it with everyone.”

Heavily influenced by the works of weird fiction authors TED Klein, Gene Wolfe and Ramsey Campbell, filmmaker David Lynch and photographer William Eggleston, Dead Static Drive has a unique blend of horror, survival and adventure gameplay as well Its impressive graphic style caused a stir among gamers and critics alike.
Mike Blackney began developing Dead Static Drive in 2014 before leaving teaching to develop the game full-time in 2017.
Mike brought his vision to life with the help of a small team of talented developers.
Leena van Deventer joined the project as creative producer in 2019 and now also works with Mike as an author and designer.
Dead Static Drive will be released in the third quarter of 2024 for Xbox, Game Pass and Microsoft Windows.
