We live in strange times in video games. While we continue to receive truly great games, with the upcoming Hellblade II on the horizon, we find new things like the release of various Microsoft exclusives on other companies’ consoles. A strategy that leaves us with titles so improbable a few years ago that they are even surprising: Xbox has more games on the PlayStation 5 bestseller list than Sony itself.
Anyone reading it will no doubt be surprised to see how much Microsoft has changed its strategy. But there are several details to take into account, such as the recent launch of the Fallout series.
Xbox brings seven best-selling games to PlayStation 5
The series has managed to increase sales and active players of the various titles in the saga. A saga which now belongs to Xbox and Microsoft, since Bethesda, owner of the IP, was bought by those from Redmond. And yes, Fallout is in the top 25 PlayStation and twice: Fallout 4 at number 16 and Fallout 76 at number 20.
Another reason is the presence of games that are now owned by Microsoft after the acquisition of Activision. Therefore, games like Call of Duty at number two and Overwatch 2 at 7. In addition to these we also see in the list Minecraft, in 19, and start on the list Sea of Thieves (still on presale) in 12th place and the new one released on PS5 Failed in 23rd place. The latter two are the first to abandon exclusivity on Xbox consoles to release on other systems.
Seven Xbox-owned games that sneak into Play’s top 25 bestsellers (a list which is updated from time to time, so it may vary a bit) and which far outperforms Sony’s games on the list. There are only two: the hit Helldivers II and the upcoming Stellar Blade, which has yet to debut and is on pre-sale. Interestingly, both games are funded by Sony but are not developed directly by them.

All because companies like Activision and Bethesda now belong to the Xbox structure, big developers who recently joined Microsoft’s organizational chart, each being, in their time, the biggest purchases in the sector.
