The global shortage of semiconductors has been an issue that has plagued the supply of next-gen consoles since their launch. The shortage of supplies for almost all types of material in recent years is very aggressive.
Sony’s console, the PS5, in particular, has had very pronounced stock issues and it shows in its sales. In Japan, the territory par excellence of Sony (if we disregard Nintendo), the Xbox Series X / S family sold out last week
- Nintendo Switch – 65,322
- PS5- 2,693
- Xbox Series X/S – 6,225
This is the first time in eight years that Xbox has surpassed PlayStation sales in the Japanese region.. The PS5 fell nearly 50,000 units sold the previous week, while the Xbox Series X/S sold nearly 7,000 units last week.
This continues to show that the “little ones” of the generation, The Xbox Series S, with less demanding or rare components, is one of Microsoft’s biggest marketing successes in decades.. Its availability, its small size and its full capacity to take advantage of the Game Pass are key points of its success in Japan. In this case, the Xbox Series X only sold just over 100 units.
No doubt those in Redmond will be happy with those numbers in a country as hard to get sales as Japan. From the Xbox area we have always been very fond of the “small” of the generation and we are delighted with its excellent sales.
