According to the developers of Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, the Xbox Series S won’t hold back game development significantly.
The Medium developer Bloober Team was recently full of praise for the performance of the Xbox Series S. Now Fatshark has also commented positively on the Xbox Series X’s little sister.
The development studio behind the first-person action title Warhammer 40,000: Vermintide 2 and its upcoming successor, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, is of the opinion that neither the Xbox Series X nor the PlayStation 5 would be held back by the weaker Xbox Series S. The adjustments to the S series were much easier than, for example, the adjustments to the large number of existing PC specifications:
“While the S Series will be another platform that will take some time to do testing and quality assurance, many developers these days are used to a much more dynamic hardware ecosystem. Even in the console space, we had different versions of the same consoles for many years. The way the Series S differs from the Series X (amount of memory and GPU performance, mainly) is much easier for us to adjust than, say, the wide variety of different PCs out there or the way that the previous generation of consoles differed. Less memory and a slower GPU are things that most game developers can dynamically adapt to by scaling resolutions and graphics effects, while different memory solutions or vastly different CPU powers are much more difficult to adapt. All in all, we don’t think the Series S will in any way significantly limit the progress of game development as a whole. “
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is slated to appear exclusively for Xbox Series X | S and PC later this year.
