With the new “Indie Selects” program, ID at Xbox wants to increase awareness of indie games in an innovative way.
ID at Xbox has unveiled a new program to support indie games. “Indie Selects” started yesterday evening, January 24th, 2024 and is intended to increase awareness of selected indie games.
For more than 10 years, Microsoft has been supporting indie developers with ID at Xbox in various ways to bring their games to the Xbox platform.
In the games section of the Xbox dashboard, the ID at Xbox team has now installed a permanent hub in which a specially curated selection of indie games is presented. To this end, six “Indie Selects” are chosen every month, which are highlighted and whose developers receive a digital award with the Indie Selects logo.
Glenn Gregory, Marketing Manager at ID at Xbox wrote about the reasons for the new program: “But why all this? Quite simply, we’re big fans of indie games and want more people to discover, buy and enjoy them!”
“With so many games out there, it’s sometimes hard to pick out the ones that are truly special. Through a carefully curated collection on the Xbox Store, we want to give these games the attention they deserve – from current hits to forgotten treasures to new, creative works from developers around the world.”
Persistent hub within the Xbox dashboard
Every week a new collection is shown in the hub with different channels and changing topics.
The first channel is called “Featured Indies”, here you can find titles that the ID at Xbox team has played themselves and can therefore warmly recommend. This channel only presents titles outside of Xbox Game Pass, as indie titles with subscriptions are regularly presented in the Game Pass hub.
The second channel focuses on variety, with the highlighted games fitting a weekly changing theme, such as “Playing with a Cat” or “Playing with Villains”. While the team is working on ideas for the next few weeks and months, the community can suggest topics and games for this channel.
There are also other channels, such as thematic highlights of games from all over the world, the ID at Xbox Sales and a dedicated channel to introduce upcoming indie titles. Indie developers particularly wanted the function of adding upcoming titles to their wish list.
Indie Selects seal of approval
Every month the ID at Xbox team votes on the Indie Selects. Here, six special games are chosen as the absolute favorites and awarded an official seal of quality. In addition to the award, the titles will be presented in monthly highlight videos, as well as a detailed article on Xbox Wire about the reasons why the titles were chosen.
The collection is updated every Wednesday, while the Indie Selects launch takes place on the last Wednesday of the month. You can access the collection in the Xbox dashboard by navigating to the Store and then selecting Games from the menu on the left.
