Welcome, brave adventurers! The darkness has spread and the Vessel of Hatred Expansion. brings new challenges and dangers into the world of Diablo IV. This guide is your key to survival – and perhaps even success – in this next chapter of the dark world of Sanctuary.
Here’s how to start
Have you already played through the basic campaign? No need to replay! Skip the basic campaign if you have already completed it. On the Character Select screen, select the option to jump straight into the Vessel of Hatred campaign. Haven’t finished the base game yet? No problem – complete the short prologue first, then return to the character selection screen to access the VoH campaign. However, if you haven’t played through the base game’s enticing campaign yet, we highly recommend you do so to get the most out of the entire story.
Explore Nahantu
Enter the lush jungles of Nahantu, home of the Spiritborn. This region is teeming with new cities, dungeons and fortresses. Fight ferocious demons and warring tribes and navigate the hellish thickets of Kurast and the barren desert of Teganze.
Meet the Spiritborn
Coming from an ancient civilization and living in the jungles of Nahantu, the Spiritborn undergo a coming-of-age ritual in which they are tested for days and survive in the jungle by learning to open their “sight.” They undergo a metamorphosis in which they shed their previous existence in favor of their spirit realm self, believing that their spirit will be reborn as a powerful animal guardian. You can also double the same spirit to get different additional benefits. Spirit Guardians represent the connection between humans and the natural world in which they live:
Gorilla: Excellent defensive/physical skills, blocking incoming damage and an emphasis on damage reduction and blocking. The incarnated skill is Resolve, which can be hoarded and provides additional damage reduction.
Jaguar: Delivers repeated aggressive attacks/fire attacks, increasing lethality. The incarnated skill is Ferocity, a stacking buff that increases attack speed and provides other benefits such as cooldown reduction.
Eagle: Execute mobile/lightning strikes against priority targets as you race across the battlefield. The mechanical focus is on movement speed and increasing evasion.
Centipede: Focuses on poisons/debuffs, draining enemies’ power through poison damage over time and disruptive crowd controls.
They also have access to a new class feature called “Spirit Hall”, which gives the freedom to further customize a build with Spiri-based bonuses and the new skill tag “Incarnate”, which allows the Spiritborn to display the characteristics associated with the skill of the Guardian. To make the Spiritborn even stronger, take advantage of the new Legendaries and Uniques available in the review build.
Use of mercenaries
Unlocked during the main quest in Vessel of Hatred, these loyal partners ensure you never fight alone. Each Pale Hand mercenary carries with them their own past, tendencies, and unique skills to join you in battle. Descend into the cave – the mercenaries’ secret hideout – and complete important quests to bring Raheir the Shield Bearer, Aldkin the Cursed Child, Varyana the Berserker Elder, and Subo the Bounty Hunter to your side. Build a relationship with them to unlock valuable rewards and powerful loot.
Conquer the Dark Citadel
Experience a new co-op PvE endgame experience with the Dark Citadel. Fight with 2 to 4 players in action-packed dungeon battles and complex boss battles. Complete the Dark Citadel to receive weekly caches full of powerful loot and exclusive cosmetic rewards.
Travel to the Lower City of Kurast. Unlock this intense, multi-stage time attack dungeon as you progress through the campaign and reach level 15. Use special keys called Spirit Tributes to influence the type of loot you earn and complete dungeon challenges to increase the quality of your bounty. Defeat one of the new Undercity bosses to claim your rewards.
Use powerful rune words
Unlock runes by speaking to Ormus during the campaign. Equip these runes at level 20 and combine ritual runes and invocation runes to create powerful rune words. Use the Offering resource system to activate and amplify their effects, and insert them into any items that contain socket slots.
Maximize your character
The Vessel of Hatred expansion significantly updates character development:
- The maximum character level is now 60.
- The world stages are redefined as Standard and Torment difficulties.
- Each class receives a new Paragon board and a new legendary node.
- New Abilities, Passives, Legendary and Unique Abilities are added for each class.
New seasonal trip
Take part in the Season of Rising Hate with new quests, Realmwalker world events, and Rupture dungeons. Earn rewards from the Battle Pass and reputation system and discover new dungeons and monsters unique to Nahantu.
Use the Party Finder
The new Party Finder feature makes it easy to find or list a party for multiple activities in Sanctuary. Accessible via the map, in-game menu, or a preset action on the emote wheel, this tool ensures you never have to face the darkness alone.
