If you’ve been using macOS for a short or long time, here we tell you 10 things you can do that you probably didn’t know about because they’re so new or a little old.
It has been demonstrated that for several yearsmore than anything given Intel’s transition stage to Apple Silicon, Macs have gained a unique relevance for what they can do. Regardless of the workload, both the macOS operating system, like the Mac itself, will be ready for anything. Year after year, Apple updates macOS with new features and functionality that go unnoticed. In this list, we’ll see 10 of the best things you can do with your Mac.
Access certain functions by hovering over the corners of the screen
There is a feature called Live Corners and allows the corners of your screen act as if they are buttons that activate certain functions of the macOS system itself. Once set up, you can hover over a corner, such as the bottom left, to lock your Mac or activate a shortcut for a quick note. Configure it this way:
- And one System configuration
- In the sidebar, choose the option Desk and docking station
- Scroll until you finish the options and click on the Active Corners button
- You will have four different options depending on the 4 available corners, display the list and select the desired option
- When finished, click Done.
All you have to do is go to one of the active corners to activate the function. In my case, the bottom left corner is for activating Mission Control and the bottom right corner is for a quick note.
Use emoji anywhere on macOS
Imagine you are writing an advertising copy and you need emojis. You don’t need to go to a messaging app to get one, Apple already has them built into its devices and macOS is no exception. Run the following keyboard shortcut: Ctrl + Cmd + Space.
Or if you prefer, click the Edit menu in any app at the top of the screen, then click the Emoji & Symbols option. If frequent emojis appear, simply click the drop-down icon to view the entire corresponding library.
Adjust your Mac’s volume or brightness in smaller intervals
Normally for To adjust the volume or brightness of the Mac we use the F1, F2 or F11 and F12 keys. This causes a change in volume or brightness. reduce or increase intervals by one unitlike every little square we can see on our screen. However, What if we wanted to make a smaller adjustment? It is possible to do this by using a key combination such that the increase or decrease is smaller, speaking in decimal terms and no longer in whole numbers.
To do this, hold down the Option and Shift keys, then press one of the volume or brightness keys.. You will now see the different intervals in smaller measurements.
Convert currencies or units from Spotlight
When we do some conversions we normally do it in Google, but starting today you can do it on your Mac this way.
Any unit of measurement or currency is easily convertible in macOS Spotlight. Open Spotlight and put the numbers followed by the unit you want to convert. For example, 1000kg gives you the result in pounds but if you want it in grams, write “1000kg ag” and that gives you the precise result.
Likewise with coins you can write 100USD to EUR and will give you the exact conversion from dollars to dollars. It’s all about experimenting and quickly deciding what you want to convert.
Preview a file without opening it
Something incredible that has been around for several years in macOS is the ability to instantly view a file in preview format. To avoid opening multiple files and checking changes or content, it’s best to do it with a preview and it’s the easiest thing in the world.
Click on the desired file then press the space bar. It’s that simple. You can scroll through the different pages of a document or PDF or continue to view other files in a folder using the direction arrows on your keyboard.
Capture or record dedicated screen space
Apple has significantly improved screenshots or recordings in macOS. Most users take their screenshots with the following keyboard shortcut: Cmd + Shift + 3. This results in a full screenshot being taken.
With the following shortcut you can capture a dedicated space with the cursor: Cmd + Shift + 4. But what if you want to be a little more specific? Press the spacebar and you can then capture a dedicated window with a shadow.
To capture or record video of a specific area, Press Cmd+Shift+5 to activate a special menu and have more options for defining how much space to capture or save, depending on which button you activate before you start.
Save directly from the Notes app
In macOS Sequoia, it is possible to record different voice notes from the native Apple application. What’s really interesting and what’s a big differentiator is that you can record and transcribe automaticallyso you can later use part of the audio without having to listen to it in its entirety.
- Open the Notes app and click to save a new note
- Click the button Record audio from above (wave icon)
- To start recording Click the red button at the bottom
- Pause and resume recording when you plan to pause it or lock it directly to the Done button to conclude
With this you will see that you now have a new note with the recording included.
Perform quick calculations in Apple Notes
Do you remember math calculations on iPad? This also applies to Apple Notes for macOS. Just write a mathematical operation and you will get the result when you write the = sign. You can test it on basic calculations up to advanced equations.
Do you have an iPhone? Connect to it from your Mac
One of the flagship features of macOS Sequoia is iPhone mirroring. It is now possible to use our iPhone directly on the Mac, best of all the iPhone remains locked. In addition to having macOS Sequoia, Mac and iPhone must have the same Apple account and be close to each other.
Navigate to the new app in the Dockicon of an iPhone and all you have to do is enter and authenticate passwords to be able to control your iPhone on macOS. Definitely one of the functions we didn’t know we needed, more than anything for users who need their iPhone while they perform activities with their Mac.
iPhone notifications on Mac
If you thought you could only control your iPhone on Mac, this is just one of the new features in macOS Sequoia. It will now be possible to receive iPhone notifications directly on the Mac desktop.
Enable this feature if it is not enabled by default as follows:
- And alas System configuration
- Click on Notifications
- Then in Allow iPhone notifications
- Enable (or disable) Allow iPhone notifications
You can customize whether you want to receive sounds and whether there is a way to not duplicate notifications with selected apps. For this to work, the iPhone and Mac must have the same Apple account.
We hope these functions can be useful to you in your daily life using your Mac.. It is these elements that make macOS a versatile and interesting system, both for new users who are still not convinced about buying a Mac and for experienced users who continue to renew their equipment.
