After many years of rumors, the Apple Vision Pro was announced in June and will be released on February 2. The highly anticipated Apple glasses – or spatial computing computer as they like to call it – They offer endless possibilities and this is only the first generation. Obviously they may fail later, but the technology is there.
In this article we compile different possible uses that can be given to this device. Some already confirmed by Apple and others which are feasible in the short to medium term given their characteristics. AND son of the most varied.
1. Several giant (and virtual) screens on our Mac
This is one of the most confirmed uses by Apple and probably the most interesting to take advantage of the technology already known in this new device. Just as until now it was possible to connect a Mac by cable to one or more monitors, something similar will happen with the Vision Pro, but much more customizable.
As the company showed, All you have to do is look at the screen of a Mac with the glasses to “extract” its screen and place it in the air. You can have one or more screens with user-adjustable sizes and with the ability to continue using traditional computing peripherals.
2. Feeling inside the film we are watching
This is one of the most ambitious projected uses, literally, for the Vision Pro. In the presentation that we have already seen examples of how to get into movie scenes
3. Watch football matches (and other sports) as if we were in the stadium
Yes, another example of what Apple showed. In sports, the idea of being able to watch a match from the stadium from home as if you were sitting in a seat is being transferred. This is something that will also require special cameras and agreements with those who own the rights to broadcast each sport, but This sounds like something revolutionary for the sports spectator.
Likewise, the possibility of continuing matches with multiple screens that enhance the experience with real-time statistics. And even be able to see replays in 3D whenever you want.
4. Enjoy hyper-realistic simulators
The video game field gives a lot of itself with devices like this. But if there is one sector that is rubbing its hands, it is that of simulators. Once again the idea of 360º live scenes This is essential to being able to feel like you are actually piloting a fighter jet or a Formula 1 car.
5. Try different decorations for our house
Several years ago, a famous Swedish furniture store pioneered iOS by launching an application allowing us to view its products in our living room with augmented reality. However, that was with an iPhone or iPad. With the Vision Pro, it’s possible redecorate our house in a much more realistic way to see what type of furniture and paintings best suit our rooms.
6. The ideal tool for architecture
If the Vision Pro can serve as inspiration for decorating the house, why not build it? The future of Vision Pro in the professional sector will be decisive in encouraging architectural application developers to launch their applications. For now, the technology exists and it is perfectly viable.
7. Make video calls much closer
For the moment this is the weakest point of the Vision Pro. Thanks to the first facial recognition carried out and the sensors that measure our movements in real time, it has been possible to make FaceTime calls with a sort of virtual and realistic avatar of us. However, it can go further.
An idea that often comes to mind is that of being able to virtually meet someone in a location even if we are hundreds of kilometers away. I think that by interconnecting the two Vision Pros and improving these avatars, something realistic could be achieved. Not as bad as other experiments with glasses, but maybe not as bad as some of the metaverse samples they showed on Facebook Meta.
8. Relive our memories in the most real way possible
It is one of the features that glasses already come standard and are even on the iPhone. The ability to record spatial videos with an iPhone 15 Pro was added several weeks ago and will surely eventually reach subsequent generations of iPhones.
The idea is that we can record 360º videos that can be played later on a Vision Pro and with it relive the memory in the most realistic way possible. As if we were there again.
9. Know where we have already vacuumed
This is one of those uses that’s so stupid it’s brilliant. In fact, until you see it, you don’t understand it. The other day our colleague Javier Lacort published content on X (Twitter) as a joke, but not such a joke. Essentially you see a person vacuuming virtual textures that mark which parts have already been sucked
In short, this would be further proof of the usefulness of such a device even in the most trivial (and boring) tasks of our daily lives.
10. Promote communication for people with motor problems
The very manipulation of visionOS, the operating system in the case, gives us a clear signal about how it can help people with some type of mobility and/or communication problem. And that’s it operate the device with your eyes This could end up being essential so that, without having to move a single finger, applications are developed that allow you to communicate with your eyes.
There reliability of Vision Pro to know exactly where you are looking It’s “incredible” say those who have tried it. Therefore, it might even prove to be a cheap device for people suffering from these problems. Much more than currently existing devices which unfortunately cost a few hundred or even thousands of dollars more.
11. Say goodbye to some of our devices
You have to give a product like this time to settle in (or vice versa). Defining your target at the start is complicated and Apple does not intend to cannibalize any of its other products. However, There are obvious casualties if the Vision Pro ends up being a success and taking hold in our lives.
Taking as arguments some of the uses given above, it quickly comes to mind replace TVs (including Apple TV), computers and even game consoles. Obviously there are many more apps and games to come, but thinking about a product as mature as a Mac or PlayStation, this wouldn’t be strange at all.
