Those of us who have been using Android since the beginning have surely used this app more than once, for me it was one of my favorites along with the legendary Titanium Backup. Because SD Maid has always been great for freeing up space on the phone, uninstalling apps and keeping devices in perfect condition. It is still as useful as ever.
It seems that time has not passed for this magnificent application, but the original version of SD Maid, number 1, has arrived on the Android Market (it was not yet the Google Play Store) in April 2011. The developer, Darken, has accumulated over 27 million downloads of the first version; with 1.3 million for the full unlockable version (AppBrain data). After this huge success, Darken completely renewed SD Maid in April 2023 (12 years after the original) to give it a new design and interface, both updated with the current times. This second version has accumulated over 500,000 downloads (AppBrain data).
Your very own Android with SD Maid, an open source application
Both apps remain fully functional, although the more modern one leaves behind the somewhat crude look that has accompanied it since 2011. SD Maid is perfect for performing bulk tasks that would otherwise require a lot of work one at a time, like cleaning the memory. cache. AND It does not contain advertising and does not violate privacy. abuse user data. In fact, it is open source and anyone can inspect said code on the developer’s GitHub.
SD Maid is proof that good software never dies. And there is no need to fill apps with ads and in-app purchases to end up making them profitable over time. Darken, the creator of SD Maid, offers a clean app that, in turn, cleans the rest of the apps. With really effective results that are based on one principle: make the use as simple as possible
The request requires a significant number of permitsIt is not in vain that it tries to access any corner of the storage to delete applications, their files and leftovers that remain on the phone after uninstalling the downloaded software. You can deepen the cleaning if you have ROOT access and it even supports Shizuku for those who want to get to the bottom of their device without having to root it.
All permissions are logical, SD Maid asks for them explaining in detail what they are for. And since it is an open source application, if it works abnormally, it will trigger alarms for those who inspect its interior. This seems to me to be a great guarantee for a type of software that, due to its operation, is delicate.
She’s been on the app for over 13 years and remains in better shape than a gymnast competing in her third Olympics. I think this is one of the gems of Android. and a million times more recommended than any cleaning app that tops the download list (in fact, most of those apps do nothing).
SD Maid is free and can be downloaded from Google Play. Requires an in-app purchase to unlock advanced features, although this can be bypassed by downloading the APK directly from Darken’s Git Hub. There’s no regretting installing it.
