Did you know that iOS 18 offers over 200 different new features? While many of us have stuck with the obvious ones, like the ability to change the color of icons or add more widgets to the Control Center, there are hidden settings that we recommend enabling if you have already updated your iPhone.
Some of them already existed before iOS 18 and others are completely new. So grab your iPhone and Prepare to get the most out of it to the camera, to the screen, to the processor… there are all kinds of settings!
Enable automatic dark mode on icons and system
Dark mode has been around since iOS 14. However, it wasn’t until iOS 18 that it was also applied to icons. So you can have a more elegant and comfortable finish for the eyesespecially at night and on the magnificent OLED screens of iPhones like the iPhone 16.
To enable dark mode in the operating system, go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Enable Auto Button. You can also set a custom schedule.
To also add the icons in dark mode, on the home screen, press and hold an area without an icon for a few moments. Click the button Edit what’s at the top left. Then move on to personalization. In the bottom bar you will find the automatic mode.
Use the bilingual keyboard
If you speak multiple languages or already use English expressions, the bilingual keyboard is a real marvel. It’s not that you add two languages, but that iOS 18 automatically knows when you speak one or the other. This way it won’t try to correct English words thinking you mean Spanish. Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Tap Spanish and Add a language.
Change the layout of the Photos app
The iOS 18 Photos app has seen the biggest change in its history. In another article we have already told you how to return to a look similar to that of iOS 17, but here we want to encourage you to stick only to the most interesting sections. For example, I kept the reel, the memories and the trips. Everything else I disabled. Go to the Photos app and scroll down. Here you will find everything you can add or remove from the main screen of the application.
Enable 48-megapixel photos
If you have an iPhone with a 48 megapixel sensor, Don’t miss the opportunity to take 48 megapixel photos. Because yes, you have to activate them manually. Of course, there are certain times of the day when we do not recommend taking photos with this quality. In fact, this was the key to the controversy over the iPhone 16 Pro’s 48-megapixel camera. But if the lighting is good, you can take photos with this incredible quality.
And one Settings > Camera > Formats > Enable resolution control and ProRaw > Choose maximum HEIF to avoid filling your iPhone with photos that are too heavy. On the camera, when you are going to take a photo, enable maximum HEIF. You will find it at the top right.
Record video while listening to music
With iOS 18, you can now record videos while listening to your favorite music through iPhone’s own speakers. To activate it, go to Settings > Camera > Record sound > Allow audio playback.
Set a battery charge limit
Prolonging battery health is one of the “obsessions” of every iPhone user. From iPhone 15 we can set a load limit of 80% and now with iOS 18 we can choose the specific percentage to apply. From 80% to 95%. You’ll find it in Settings > Battery > Charging.

Create a QR code with the Wi-Fi dongle
Sharing your Wi-Fi password has never been easier. By generating a QR code, you can allow your friends to connect to your home network without having to dictate letter by letter. And in offices, I can’t even tell you how useful it is! Access the app Passwords > Wi-Fi > Select your network > Show QR code.
Change access to camera and flashlight
Another customization option that comes with iOS 18 is the ability to remove and edit shortcut to the lock screen camera and flashlight. To change it, you just need to:
- Be on the lock screen and tap the center of it.
- Click Personalize > Lock Screen.
- Remove the buttons and choose which ones you prefer to put.
Pause a video recording
With iOS 18 we can pause recording a video and then resume it. Although it is something very simple, it makes creating content for social networks much easier, since this way you can make changes to the plan without having to subsequently go to an editing program to join different clips. More than an adjustment, you will see the pause button when you start recording the video. This must have gone unnoticed by you.
Enable grid and camera level
We continue with the photo and video advice. And there’s nothing worse than a distorted video or photo. The iPhone has a really useful level for getting a perfect frame. Go to Settings > Camera and scroll to Level.ç
Automatically remove verification codes
More and more services and applications use two-factor to increase security. Result: a messaging application full of SMS codes that no longer work. Did you know that they can be automatically deleted when you use them? Go to Settings > General > Autofill and Passwords > Enable deletion after use.
Take care of your eyesight with “screen distance”
If you think about it, how many hours do we look at iPhone every day? A lot. And looking too closely can also increase the risk of vision problems, especially the younger we are. To do this, Apple has developed technology that warns with Face ID if you look too closely at the iPhone. In Settings go to Screen Time and enable the Screen Distance feature.
